For October, we’re switching things up a bit: we’ve picked 3 very different wines to pair with a particular type of food to explore the versatility of wine!  This week, you can enjoy these very different, very delightful wines with Chef Joey’s incredible duck tapas.

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday October 11th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through October 17th.

Oct week 2 tapas

First, SOHO will pour a 2014 Fontannafredda Barbera DOC from Piedmont, Italy, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Ruby red color with purple highlights.  The nose is packed with black fruit, especially blackberries and plums, with slight spicy overtones hinting at black pepper and cinnamon. Palate is sweet, soft tannins come together in a closely woven texture that combines with great fruit character and crisp freshness.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2016 Mauritson Sauvignon Blanc from Dry Creek Valley. The wine is described as,

“The aroma is a beautiful balance of young white peach flesh, papaya, and delicate white blossom. There is a pervasive vein of minerality and fresh pine sap. The entry is bright and focused. On the palate, notes of candied grapefruit dance with flavors of summer melon and lime zest. The finish is clean and soft with balanced acidity.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2014 Four Vines Zinfandel from Central Coast.  The winemaker says,

“Say hello to your new friend, Four Vines Old Vine Zinfandel: big berry flavors, a hefty dusting of spice and zesty pepper are this Zin’s calling cards—and it’s destined to be a welcome guest at your backyard barbecue, pizza night or any time your squad’s in town.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joe Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

2014 Fontannafredda Barbera DOC
100% Barbera
Paired with: Duck Confit Poutine, Bacon, Cheese Curd, Duck Gravy

2016 Mauritson Sauvignon Blanc
100% Sauvignon Blanc
Paired with: Duck Cotechino, Brussel Sprout-Apple Hash, Cheddar Mornay

2014 Four Vines Zinfandel
84% Zinfandel, 10% Petite Sirah, 4% Syrah, 2% Alicante Bouschet
Paired with: Duck Breast Au Poivre, Smoked Polenta, Five Spice Duck Demi

Sample each wine in a flight (three three-ounce glasses) for $14.25. Or, pair the flight with a tapa plate for $19. Try a full glass of wine and tapa plate for $13. Of course, the wines and tapas are available individually as well ($9.50/glass and $6.50/tapas).

We can’t wait to see you!

Sonoma County Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cab; what more could you ask for? This is truly the trifecta of wines we enjoy bringing to our guests! Three great vineyards paired with three DELICIOUS tapas makes everybody pretty happy, if we do say so ourselves. And that’s what it’s all about, right? Come get into the spirit of Sonoma with us at SOHO; we know you won’t regret it!

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday August 30th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through September 5th.

Jordan-1-e1432858881574

First, SOHO will pour a 2014 Jordan Chardonnay from Russian River Valley, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Enticing aromas of pear, kiwi and lychee. The palate is round, creamy and refined, with layers of lemon curd, bright acidity and a kiss of caramel from barrel aging. A juicy, succulent wine that leaves a lasting impression of fresh Meyer lemon and stone fruits on the crisp finish.  Enjoy now or cellar through 2021.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2013 Alysian Pinot Noir from Sonoma Coast.  The wine is described as,

“ 2013 Alysian Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir shows aromas of pomegranate, red cherry, and a funky forest floor. Flavors of raspberry, bright plum and mint carry on a lingering finish. Pleasant brightness makes this a wonderful food friendly wine. Although entirely approachable now we encourage you to experience its evolution through 2025.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2014 Trig Point Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Dust Vineyard from Alexander Valley.  The winemaker says,

“Aromas of blackberry, black cherry, spice and licorice. Black currant and cherry flavors are accented with sage and dark chocolate. Full-bodied on the palate, this vintage shows subtle espresso bean and mocha notes in a soft, supple finish.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joe Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

2014 Jordan Chardonnay
100% Chardonnay
Paired with: Smoked Salmon Dip, Armenian Flatbread

2013 Alysian Pinot Noir
100% Pinot Noir
Paired with: Short Rib Stuffed Piquillo, Pinot Demi-Glacé

2014 Trig Point Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Dust Vineyard
100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Paired with: Beef Carpaccio, Espresso-Cherry Reduction, Shaved Mimolette Cheese

Sample each wine in a flight (three three-ounce glasses) for $14.25. Or, pair the flight with a tapa plate for $19. Try a full glass of wine and tapa plate for $13. Of course, the wines and tapas are available individually as well ($9.50/glass and $6.50/tapas).

We can’t wait to see you!
