This Flight Night begins on Wednesday August 26th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through September 1st.

First, SOHO will pour a Bodegas Viña Nora Albariño 2018 from Rias Baixas, Spain.

“It has a bright, straw-yellow color with green shades and a high aromatic intensity. Fruity, with notes of pear and white flowers, such as honeysuckle. Albariño’s varietal aromas and the mineral character of the soil are emphasized in this wine. On the palate, it is a well-structured, full-bodied and elegant wine in which its aging in the bottle is present.”

The second wine is a Tosalet Priorat 2015 from Priorat, Spain. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“Clear deep dark purple colour. Pure and very intense aromas reminiscent of red berry fruit such as cranberries, red cherries and raspberries combined with mineral notes of flint and hints of eucalyptus. The palate is
dry, full bodied with rich concentrated juicy fruit, firm but ripe tannins and a refreshing acidity making this a great food wine.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Marques de Marietta Rioja Riserva ‘15 from Rioja, Spain. Notes on the wine,

“With a bright ruby color, Marqués de Murrieta Reserva 2015, exhibits a significant and open nose with strawberries, cranberries and redcurrant jam aromas. The intense fruity expression stands out over a spiced bed made from thyme, laurel and red black pepper within the distinguishable Mediterranean herbs of our Ygay Estate.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Todd Paige has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

As we move deeper into April, we also dig into the true essence of Spain and its glorious wines with two Riojas and a Cava this week! The tapas are truly stand alone as well, but these authentic Spanish dishes are better enjoyed with their wine pairings! Overall, the entire Spanish wine flight with paired tapas is an extraordinary experience not to be missed. We do hope we see you this week!

First, SOHO will pour a Cava Naveran, Cava Brut from Catalonia, Spain.  The winemaker offers,

“Pale green-tinged yellow. A suave, highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh citrus and orchard fruits and pungent flowers, and a suave floral note builds in the glass. Silky and penetrating on the palate, offering intense Meyer lemon and green apple flavors that deepen on the back half. The floral quality repeats on a long, nervy finish that shows very good clarity and final bite.”

Next, SOHO will pour a El Vino Prodigo “Placeres Sensoriales” Rioja 2016 from Rioja. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“An intense cherry color indicates that this is the maximum expression of tempranillo 100%, all natural, without any dressings or sophisticated elaborations, only grapes harvested from 40 year vines planted in vessel, unloaded in a concrete lake with a capacity of 1000 cantaras, and fermented for 10 days, with branch, without squeezing, completely whole grapes, with the aim of trying to do what our grandparents, when no enology, no technology and really wines only tasted wine.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Mariano J Locort Gran Reserva 2008 from Rioja. Notes on the wine,

“Red, with intense hues. The nose shows an aromatic intensity. To the palate it is velvety and elegant with a powerful finish.”

Flight Night at SOHO is obviously one of our favorite days of the week, but there is a way that it can only get better: the weather cooperates in Atlanta, and patio season begins! In true spanish style, our wines and tapas pairings are best enjoyed al fresco this particular time of the year; once winter is finally behind us, and before hot summers descend. So let’s raise a glass to perfect patio weather and delicious spanish wines this week! Won’t you join us?

This Flight Night begins on Wednesday, April 10th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through April 16th.

Viñedo de Emilio Rojo.

First, SOHO will pour a Gotas de Mar Rias Baixas Albarino 2017 from Rias Baixas.  The winemaker offers,

“Brilliant pale lemon color. Intense stringent aromas of peaches, white flowers, stony minerals and a hint of fresh sea breeze. The palate offers an energetic combination steely acidity with charming peachy fruit and stony minerals. It finishes clean with a mouth watering acidity and long complex persistency.”

Next, SOHO will pour a Bodegas Avancia Godello 2016 from Valdeorras. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“Sourced from one of the oldest, most traditional vineyards planted in Valdeorras, Avancia Godello expresses the authenticity the history of Valdeorras and the oldest Godello clones in the world. A completely unique white wine that ages beautifully and has been recognized by Robert Parker as Spain’s best Godello. Godello was almost extinct at the end of the 1980’s, so it is extremely rare to find a Godello produced from a single vineyard planted in 1904.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Torres Ribera del Duero Celeste Crianza 2015 from the Ribera del duero. Notes on the wine,

“Cherry red color with garnet highlights. Delicious, voluptuous aroma of very ripe black fruit (blueberries) with fine roasted coffee and dried fruit (dried plum) notes. Dense, fleshy, with sensuous flavor sensations that are impressively persistent.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joey Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

If anyone does wine and tapas pairings well, it’s SPAIN! This month at SOHO, we are honoring this amazing country and it’s culinary gifts with wines from our favorite Spanish vineyards, and Chef Joey’s creative spin on tapas pairings. We think we’ve done it justice; feel free to stop by and tell us if you agree!

Next, SOHO will pour a RK Rekaide Txacoli de Getaria 2016 from Txakoli de Getaria. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“Txakoli is a young, fruity white wine. Of moderate strength (11º) and with a slight characteristic acidity, it is a highly unique, distinctive wine. It should be served chilled; that way, it gives off its full range of aromas along with tiny carbonic acid bubbles, which is the result of its characteristic winemaking process.”

wood.”
