Thank you so much for your continued support of SOHO American Bistro. We are so happy to serve you, our loyal friends and patrons, for over 23 years. We are also excited about the new friends we make as people hear about us through your kind words and recommendations.

During these complex times we wanted to assure you we are observing the highest standards for sanitation and cleanliness. We are going the extra mile to assure a safe and healthful environment. Please see some of the efforts that help us stand out in the neighborhood.

•Our entire staff is back in masks. We enjoyed the break but current conditions warrant the extra step.

•We sanitize every table in between use with disposable table wipes designed specifically for the purpose.

•We have increased outdoor seating to accommodate those wanting fresh air. We will start taking limited reservations on the patio beginning in September—these will NOT be available on OpenTable. You must speak with a host or manager as we are limiting our reservations outside.

•Weather permitting, we will open the Paces room to invite the fresh air into our dining room.

•We have a service coming through and sanitizing our entire environment throughout the week.

Please let us know if you have any concerns. We appreciate your feedback and trust. We will continue to update all of our practices based on the National Restaurant Association’s “best practices.”

Warmly,

The SOHO Management & Team

Wednesday are hard, we know.  It’s the middle of the week, and it seems like it’s never going to end.  Honestly, the best thing you can do to stay sane is to treat yourself mid-week to something that makes you happy.  What makes YOU happy?

We don’t know what that may be for you, but we DO know that we can offer up what makes US happy.  The simple pleasure in life like good wine, good food, and good people. This month’s Italian wines let you seek the small pleasure in life. These wines are like Italy itself: beautifully balanced, harmonious, and pleasing to the palate!

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday February 22nd, and the wines and their tapas will be available through February 28th.  Enjoy!

First, SOHO will pour a Piazzo Barbaresco 2013 DOCG from Piedmonte, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Color: Deep garnet red with a slight orange hue.  Bouquet: An aristocratic nose of red fruit jam, withered violets and geraniums, with hints of cinnamon and green pepper.  Taste: A warm, dry, and full-bodied palate packed with structure and a long aromatic finish.”

Next, SOHO will pour a Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino 2014 DOC from Montalcino.  The wine is described as,

“Intense ruby red color. Fruity bouquet with red berry notes. Very well structured, yet soft, long-lasting flavor with smooth, velvety tannins.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Chianti Classico Il Brunone Riserva 2005 DOCG from Chianti Classico. The winemaker says,

“A wine with a deep ruby red colour; the impact on the nose is complex, intense and long with typical sweet violet and black berry fragrance. In the mouth, it is a full body, harsh, with well-balanced tannins wine. A broad complex of aromas enriched by just a hint of toasty oak.  Overall, a beautifully harmonious wine.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef, Jeff Sigler, has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

Chianti Classico Il Brunone Riserva 2005 DOCG

SOHO continues our tour of lovely wineries from various regions in Italy!  This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday September 14th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through Tuesday, September 20th!

First, SOHO will pour a 2014 Antinori Castello della Sala Chardonnay from Umbria IGT.  The winemaker offers the following tasting notes,

“A brilliant yellow in color with greenish highlights, the wine shows fresh and complex aromas with delicate notes of tropical fruit such as pineapple and of citrus fruit, hazelnut butter, and vanilla. It is a wine of good structure, elegance, and a mineral character perceptible in its vibrant and balanced acidity, well fused with the notes of fruit.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2014 Le Volte Dell ’Ornellaia from Bolgheri. The wine is described as,

“The late ripening of the grapes have made it possible to express the crispness and freshness of the fruit to best effect. What is striking is the high quality of the tannins on the palate: silky, refined and without any sharp edges, albeit with a lower density than in hotter vintages. Le Volte dell’Ornellaia is a balanced, harmonious and very drinkable wine thanks in particular to the beautiful Merlots of 2014.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2012 Querciabella Mongrana from Toscana IGT. The winemaker says,

“A very hot summer with drought-like conditions followed by heavy rainfall shortly before harvest led to excellent grape maturation in 2012. Harvest took place between late August and early September. This vintage produced well-proportioned wines: fruit-forward without excessive alcohol content.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef, Jeff Sigler, has created tapas plates for each of the wines!

2014 Antinori Castello della Sala
100% Chardonnay
Paired with: Pork Belly, Champagne Grapes

2014 Le Volte Dell ’Ornellaia
70% Merlot, 15% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon
Paired with: Braised Oxtail Pot Pie

2012 Querciabella Mongrana
50% Sangiovese, 25% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon
Paired with: Finocchiona Flatbread

Sample each wine in a flight (three three-ounce glasses) for $14.25. Or, pair the flight with a tapa plate for $19. Try a full glass of wine and tapa plate for $13. Of course, the wines and tapas are available individually as well ($9.50/glass and $6.50/tapas).

We look forward to seeing you soon!

First, SOHO will pour a 2014 Stags Leap Napa Valley Chardonnay. The winemaker offers the following tasting notes, “Aromas of lemon zest, tart white peach and crisp pear show generously in this refreshing cool-climate Chardonnay. On the palate, vibrant citrus fruit intensity is balanced by a wet stone core and nutty undertones. Focused, yet generous in style, the wine has notable acidity that maintains freshness and lasting lemon minerality that adds complexity.

Next, SOHO will pour a 2013 Etude Carneros Pinot Noir. The wine is described: “The 2013 Carneros Estate Pinot Noir intrigues with its rich array of red cherry, wild strawberry, pomegranate raspberry and spice. The core of red fruit is made complex with layers of sasssafrass, sandalwood and baking spice that build in intensity through the finish. With an opulent mouth-feel and ideal natural acidity, the wine has significant substance and depth, yet stays lively and lifting throughout.

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2013 Cloissonne Cabernet Sauvignon. The winemaker says, “A complex wine with layers of deep black fruits. Deep aromas of black cherry, cassis, black tea, cedar, cigar box and cocoa. Long finish with baking spices on the palate.”

On the palate, the wine has a light beam of bright acidity, balanced by a full-bodied creamy texture, which lends itself to the lingering finish.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2012 Clos Pegase Pinot Noir from Mitsuko’s Vineyard, Carneros, Napa Valley. The wine is described, “Our 2012 Pinot Noir has deep enticing aromas of red and black cherries and olallieberry accented by dried porcini mushroom, dark tea, sweet spices and wisps of incense. The wine is silky and seamless in the mouth, balancing fleshiness with perfect acidity and an opulent mouthfeel.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2013 Turnbull Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The winemaker offers the following notes: “Aromatics of bing cherries, dusted, farm-ripe strawberries, red cassis and dark olive. There’s a rich, dense, dark fruit core, with lifted floral and earth tones. Plus dark fruit defines the forefront. Dark berries and cherries flow forth, creating a nice mid-palate density. Dark fruits, spicebox, tobacco, dark chocolate tones fill out the finish.”

SOHO’s executive chef, Jeff Sigler, has created a tapas plate to be paired with each wine.

On the palate, it is big, rich and spicy, offering flavors of dark cherry, plum, cassis and black pepper that integrate with hints of oak spices, coating the palate.
