With the temps in Atlanta dipping down into the twenties, is there a better time to be drinking a lovely, robust Cabernet? Not in our opinion; you’ve got to do something to keep warm! We’ve picked three AMAZING ones for Flight Night and this week, and some hearty tapas that compliment the wines as well. You can’t go outside, so you may as well come sit with us, eat, and enjoy some good conversation in the warmth of our cheery little restaurant!

This Flight Night begins on Wednesday, January 30th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through February 4th.

First, SOHO will pour a Trefethen Oak Knoll Cabernet 2015 from Oak Knoll, Napa Valley.  The winemaker offers,

“Deep ruby in color, this exquisite Cabernet Sauvignon opens with fragrant notes of blackberry, bay leaf, coffee and chocolate. The palate is supported by velvety tannins and features flavors that tend more towards red cherries and baking spices.”

Next, SOHO will pour a Knuttel Family Cabernet Sauvignon “Infinite Limits” 2016 from Dry Creek Valley. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“Aromas of black cherry and ripe plum mesh with blackberry spice and violets. Flavors explode on the palate, with velvety tannins and elegant acidity seamlessly integrated into the finish. The balance of the wine makes it extremely versatile, pairing equally well with salads and cheeses as well as grilled vegetables and roasted red meats.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Franciscan Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 from Napa Valley. Notes on the wine,

“Vivid garnet in color with perfumed and inviting aromas of rich dark cherry, plum, chocolate, and layered undertones of vanilla, clove, black pepper, and sage. A well-balanced expression of fruit and oak elements fills the palate with cassis, bright cherry, dark berry, toast, cedar, and a hint of vanilla. Round but structured, with well-knit tannins that impart texture and length on the finish.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joey Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

Trefethen Oak Knoll Cabernet 2015
85% Cabernet, 6% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot, 4% Malbec
Paired with: Coffee Rubbed Prime Sirloin, Creamy Polenta, Red Wine-Cherry Reduction

Knuttel Family Cabernet Sauvignon “Infinite Limits” 2016

Paired with: Beef Meatballs and Spaghetti, Spiced Tomato Sauce

Franciscan Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Next, SOHO will pour a Altamana Grande Reserve Malbec ‘14 from Maule, Central Valley, Chile. The wine is described by the winemaker,

Finally, SOHO will pour a Cuvelier Los Andes – Colección 2011 from Valle de Uco, Argentina. Notes on the wine,

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joey Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

Happy New Year from all of us at SOHO!  We are so excited to kick off 2018 with you, and we have so many fun things planned for this year! Starting off, it’s freezing (literally) in Atlanta, but what’s the best thing you can do when it’s cold and dreary?  Drink red wine! So for January, we’re featuring red varietals, which is perfectly paired with our Chef’s tapas.  We’re all in this together, so let’s drink some wine, eat some delicious food, and toast to an amazing 2018!

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday January 3rd, and the wines and their tapas will be available through January 9th.

Flight Jan Week 1-page-001.jpg

First, SOHO will pour a 2015 Trisaetum Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Ruby garnet in color with a striking aroma of freshly ground nutmeg, Marion berry, and wood spices. The palate exudes grace with red fruit flavors that finish with a hint of toasted oak. The lively acidity is balanced by finely-textured tannins and a firm, long finish.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2014 Martinelli Bella Vigna Pinot Noir from Russian River. The wine is described as,

“The 2014 Bella Vigna Pinot Noir is sure to become your go-to wine. This approachable wine is bright and fresh, with wonderful aromas of plum, red apple and hibiscus tea. Flavors include juicy cherry pie, currants and hints of cinnamon and vanilla.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2013 SRH Pinot Noir from the Santa Rita Hills.  The winemaker says,

“Brimming with high-toned, youthful aromatics, the 2013 SRH Pinot Noir leads with crunchy red fruits of pomegranate, wild strawberry, and raspberry. The exuberantly fruited nose is undergirded with orange zest, black tea, tea rose, and faint hints of clove and spice. The bright, vivacious palate carries a taut mineral streak through to a lengthy finish lifting the red fruit notes with a whisper of anise.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joey Zalinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

As the end of this wonderful year approaches, we look back on what YOU loved the most: Flight Nights in December will feature our Guest’s Favorites of 2017! 🙌  Please join us this month for a second chance at those wines & tapas pairings you enjoyed so much earlier in the year!

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday December 6th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through December 12th.

20161129_173045.jpg

First, SOHO will pour a 2015 Patricia Green Reserve Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley,, and offers the following tasting notes,

“The Reserve program has evolved from an every-so-often produced bottling to the mainstay of our production. It allows us to use barrels from our vineyard designated sites that we think don’t represent what we think that site’s profile truly is.  Sometimes that is based on vine age, clonal material or location within the site. This allows
us to create a blended wine that has a degree of consistency to it each vintage that is of high quality and will retail for $27.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2015 Conreria D’Scala Dei Black Slate Escaladei from Priorat, Spain. The wine is described as,

“ ..the wine comes through as very fresh with some spiciness, nothing heavy or
oaky about it. The tannins are silky, and the texture is very elegant. It feels young and elegant like a Pinot Noir from the south. This is an elegant Priorat for those who avoid the dark, concentrated, powerful wines and who appreciate more the elegant side of a
Mediterranean red.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2011 Worthy Sophia’s Cuvee Cabernet from Napa Valley.  The winemaker says,

“… aromas of red currants and blackberries deepened by notes of violets, loose tobacco, forest floor and raw cedar. The seamless palate of wild cherries, raspberries and black currants unveils a spicy layer of Bay leaf, cinnamon, anise and mint that give lift to an elegantly balanced finish of subtle, fine-grained tannins enlivened by refreshing acidity.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joey Zalinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

2015 Patricia Green Reserve Pinot Noir
100% Pinot Noir
Paired with: Tempura Fried Pork Confit, Pinot Noir BBQ Sauce

2015 Conreria D’Scala Dei Black Slate Escaladei
Garnatxa Negra, Carinyena
Paired with: Short Rib Stuffed Piquillo, Soho Steak Sauce

2011 Worthy Sophia’s Cuvee Cabernet
92% Cabernet, 5% Cab Franc, 3% Petite Verdot
Paired with: Grilled Prime Sirloin, Roasted Fingerling Potatoes and Cab Butter

Sample each wine in a flight (three three-ounce glasses) for $14.25. Or, pair the flight with a tapa plate for $19. Try a full glass of wine and tapa plate for $13. Of course, the wines and tapas are available individually as well ($9.50/glass and $6.50/tapas)

Australia and New Zealand are fascinating regions for wine.  Altitudes vary from vineyards planted at sea level to those planted at 1000m, climates vary from cool coastal-influenced regions to the hotter interior regions and with some of the oldest landmass in the world, with soil types that are extremely complex. These variations produce the different characteristics of each region – and with it the different styles.

We couldn’t possibly share all of our favorites with you in just one month, but we do have 12 shining stars that we are happy to feature for the month of November! Come explore these amazing regions with us; you’ll be glad you did.

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday November 8th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through November 14th.

roos_in_vineyard-Australia

First, SOHO will pour a 2016 D’Arenberg “The Hermit Crab” from McLaren Vale, AU, and offers the following tasting notes,

“The Viognier certainly takes centre stage on the nose in the guise of stone fruits, candied ginger and florals. In the background for those keen on honing their senses, Marsanne adds slightly more exotic notes of green mango, hay and almond. The palate has a lovely medium bodied weight to it, without any of that oiliness that over ripe Viognier can deliver.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2014 Small Gully Winery Small Gully Winery “Little Book” Shiraz from South Australia, AU. The wine is described as,

“Brilliant ruby. Ripe boysenberry, cherry and peppery spices on the highly perfumed nose and in the mouth. Silky and open-knit, with sweet vanilla and cola notes building in the glass; this rich wine is surprisingly lively for its flavor impact. Smooth tannins come in late to add shape and grip.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2015 Esk Valley Gimblett Gravels from the Hawkes Bay, N.Z.  The winemaker says,

“This is a full bodied and rich Hawkes Bay blend. Densely colored, it has a bouquet of blackberry and cherry with a subtle oak seasoning, while the palate is softly textured and generous in nature. Due to its well ripened tannins the wine can be enjoyed young, although it also shows the potential to age gracefully and gain further complexity.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joe Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

2016 D’Arenberg “The Hermit Crab”
Viognier (72%) Marsanne (28%)
Paired with: Crab & Endiva Salad, Orange, Whipped Cream Cheese

2014 Small Gully Winery Small Gully Winery “Little Book” Shiraz
100% Shiraz
Paired with: Seared Prime Sirloin, Mac n’ Cheese, Cherry Cola Reduction

2015 Esk Valley Gimblett Gravels
Merlot 44%, Cabernet 30%, Malbec 22%, Cabernet Franc 4%
Paired with: Braised Lamb Shank, Mushroom Risotto, Lamb Jus

Sample each wine in a flight (three three-ounce glasses) for $14.25. Or, pair the flight with a tapa plate for $19. Try a full glass of wine and tapa plate for $13. Of course, the wines and tapas are available individually as well ($9.50/glass and $6.50/tapas).

First, SOHO will pour a 2017 Wairau River Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, N.Z, and offers the following tasting notes,

Next, SOHO will pour a 2015 Franklin Tate Shiraz from Margaret River. The wine is described as,

“This is a highly expressive wine with great fruit concentration driven by mixed berries and dark, juicy cherry fruit. The tannin structure is chewy, and the oak has provided a sweet, chocolatey flavor along with hints of hazelnuts and toast. White pepper lingers on the finish.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2014 Mulderbosch Faithful Hound from the Western Cape.  The winemaker says,

“Beautifully rich in appearance, showing a deep, dark core. Seductive aromas of ripe cherries, tobacco leaf, tilled earth and that classic cedar wood fragrance so often associated with Bordeaux-style blends.”

We at SOHO love a good success story, and the Pacific Northwest wine region is an amazing example of overcoming advertisty!  Not only did the vinters prove the experts wrong, they’ve created a world-class wine region, and have not only succeeded in growing grapes, but expanded the range of viable grapes as well!

There are several top-tier winemakers making amazing wines here, and it’s not just the Pinot Noir, which of course, is exceptional.  This week, we also showcase a Chenin Blanc and a Syrah that will stop you in your tracks.  We invite you to sip and swirl some of the best wines that Washington and Oregon have to offer.  We know you won’t be disappointed!

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday September 20th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through September 26th.

Next, SOHO will pour a 2014 Bethel Heights Estate Pinot Noir from Eola-Amity Hills. The wine is described as,

“Floral black pepper and warm Christmas spice frame red fruit aromas of currant and pomegranate. The palate enjoys volume without heavy weight, and the punchy red fruits carry a savory depth that fills the front, mid, and back palate. The finish is lengthy and high toned, the silky tannins focused by bright, balanced acidity, suggesting a promising longevity in the cellar.”
