You’re invited to join us as we journey west for flight night. This week’s pairings feature classic California wines and Chef Todd’s delicious tapa.

This Flight Night begins on Wednesday March 10, and the wines and their tapas will be available until March 16.

First, SOHO will pour a Noah River Pinot Noir, 2018, from California.

Ruby in color. Big, floral nose of dark cherry, fig and Asian spice. Secondary notes of blackberry, mint, orange pekoe tea. Medium bodied flavors of dark cherry cola, red raspberry and tea.”

The second wine is a Terra D’Oro Zinfandel, 2017, from Amador County, California.

“Enticing aromas of clove, cinnamon, anise, and dark fruits are accompanied by hints of pastry, dried oregano, thyme and fresh dough notes. This wine boasts an elegant entry with a generous juicy midpalate and a long finish.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Tuck Beckstoffer 75 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2019, from Lake CO & Mendocino, California.

It is a rich and balanced Cabernet Sauvignon expressing aromas of red currents, strawberry jam and black berries. These aromatics are balanced with a note of toffee/biscotti from age in medium toasted French oak.

We’re kicking off March with a little California dreamin’! Join us for Flight Night, featuring classic California wines and Chef Todd’s delicious tapa.

This Flight Night begins on Wednesday March 3rd, and the wines and their tapas will be available until March 9th.

First, SOHO will pour a Bacchus Chardonnay, 2018, from California’s Central Coast.

“Medium-bodied and crisp, with subtle apple, pear and citrus notes. A mineral component comes through in the lively , balanced and long finish. This wine was made by the wine director of Tribeca Grill, David Gordon.”

The second wine is a Edna Valley Pinot Noir, 2018, also from California’s Central Coast.

Deliciously rich on the palate while delivering a light-body that is true to the varietal. Layers of blueberry compote and black cherry meld with a touch of tart cranberry for vibrant acidity.

Finally, SOHO will pour a Daou Cabernet Sauvignon, 2018, from Paso Robles, California.

A rich and compelling nose of blackberry, cassis, smoky leather and dried herbs is enhanced with layers of plum and cherry, cocoa and sandalwood. Bold and full bodied, this wine is structured firmly around a solid core of boysenberry and cherry fruit.”

This Flight Night begins on Wednesday February 24th, and the wines and their tapas will be available until March 2nd.

First, SOHO will pour a Remo Farina Ripasso 2017 from Basilicata, Italy.

A dark ruby-red color, with the fragrance of pepper, fruit marmalade (cherries, prunes) and spices, licorice and ginger. Excellent with roasted meats and cheeses.

The second wine is a Vigneti del Vulture ‘Pipoli’ Aglianico del Vulture 2019 from Pulgia, Italy. The wine is described by the winemaker,

This Aglianico has an intense scent with notes of black cherries, herbs and a touch of vanilla from the ageing in used barriques. The powerful body is supported by fine tannins, the wine ends long and very harmonious.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Fattoria del Cerro ‘Antica Chiusina’ Vino Nobile di Multepulciano 2018 from Tuscany, Italy. Notes on the wine,

Black and red little fruits at the nose with mineral hints. Elegant and powerful at the palate with a long lasting finish. Ideal with roasted red meats, roast game, stewed beef​.”

First, SOHO will pour a Palladino Barbera D’Alba from Piedmonte, Italy.

“Intense ruby red with delicate violet hues. Dry, delicate, and pleasantly almondy. With a good alcohol content, and moderate acidity. It’s well balanced and harmonious, easy to approach.”

The second wine is a Papale Primitivo di Manduria 2016 from Pulgia, Italy. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“Its color is intense ruby red with beautiful violet hues, the rich aromas reference fruit jam, black current, blackberries, cherries, cocoa, and licorice. Its taste is round and soft, with long-lasting aromatic finish.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Castello Banfi Chianti Classico Reserva 2017 from Tuscany, Italy. Notes on the wine,

Deep ruby red color with rich notes of cherries, plums. The taste is of deep cherry and leather flavors, with subtle wood notes. Supple tannins, lingering acidity, and good finish.

This Flight Night begins on Wednesday January 27th, and the wines and their tapas will be available until February 2nd.

First, SOHO will pour a Daniel Cohn Bellacosa Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 from North Coast, CA.

“Deep ruby color and rich hue. The nose is complex and shows layers of dark fruit flavors and spice tones. Blueberry, rich plum and red raspberry notes are apparent. Soft notes of vanilla and toast provide aromatic richness. The texture is supple with depth on the pallet. The tannins are lush with long finish texture.”

The second wine is a Alexander Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 from Alexander Valley, CA. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“This is an elegant wine with aromas of black cherry, cassis, plum, vanilla, oak and chocolate. In the glass there are lush flavors of cherry, cassis, blackberry and chocolate. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon evolves with each sip. This is a graceful wine with great balance and a long, lingering finish. While fruit forward upon release, this wine will reward those with the patience to lay down a few bottles.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Annabella Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 from Napa Valley, CA. Notes on the wine,

Bursting with characteristic creme cases, boysenberry, and milk chocolate on the nose, in the mouth the wine blooms with black plum, cranberry, cocoa powder, and a hint of mission fig. The tannins are broad and provide ample framing for the wine’s large aromatic volume. Cardamom and cinnamon linger throughout the finish.

“Aromas of maraschino cherries, licorice, and fresh wild herbs. The earthy mouthfeel is complemented by flavors of ripe blueberries, jammy red cherries, and juicy blackberries.”

The second wine is a Cass Wines G.S.M Estate Grown 2016 from Pasa Robles, CA. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“Enjoyable, straightforward notes of ripe cherries and blackberry fruits, subtle spice and underbrush, medium body, and supple texture.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Domaine Leface, Cotes du Roussillon Tessellae Old Vines 2017 from Languedoc/Roussillon. Notes on the wine,

Blackberries, kirsch, spice, incense, dried flowers, and baking spice notes all flow to a full-bodied, gorgeously texture effort. It’s another gem from this team.

First, SOHO will pour a Concha y Toro Gran Reserva Malbec 2018 from Colchagua Valley, AR.

“Deep, intense purple in color. The nose presents aromas of black fruits, blueberries, plums, and chocolate. The palate is concentrated, with soft, sweet tannins and black fruit flavors. Good structure and density.”

The second wine is a Bodegas Catena Zapata Lunlunta Malbec 2017 from Lunlunta, AR. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“Lunlunta is an idyllic district of small orchards and tree-lined country roads, well known for its ancient Malbec vines and silty-clay soils. Lunlunta Malbec displays black and red berry aromatics, a lengthy mid-palate and a ripe silky finish.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Piattelli Vineyards Premium Reserve Malbec 2017 from Lujan de Cuyo, AR. Notes on the wine,

“Reminiscent of dark currant and blueberry. Fresh yet has a mineral complexity. The finish is strong with notes of bittersweet chocolate and pepper.”

This Flight Night begins on Wednesday January 6th, and the wines and their tapas will be available until January 12th.

First, SOHO will pour a Left Coast Cali’s Cuvee Pinot Noir 2017 from Willamette Valley, OR.

“Expressive black cherry,black tea, and forest floor aromas expose a polished and poised dark raspberry, bitter chocolate and spice flavors that finish with our region’s minerality and mild tannin. Cali’s Cuvée is a versatile and exceedingly food friendly.”

The second wine is a Frederic Esmonin 2019 -Les Genevrieres- Pinot Noir from Bourgogne. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“Les Genevrieres glows light red in the glass, yielding aromas of tart cranberry, ripe strawberry, and hints of brown spices. On the palate, soft cherry fruit eases into fleshed-out raspberry elements. The finish is bright and elongated, tying together a very charming, easy-to-drink Burgundy.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Luli Pinot Noir 2016 from Santa Lucia Highlands. Notes on the wine,

“The 2016 Luli Pinot Noir offers vibrant aromatics of fresh black cherry, ripe strawberry, and sous bois. Medium ruby in color, this wine showcases the rugged, foggy slopes of the Santa Lucia Highlands with its lively acidity and rich flavors—of crushed plum and baking spice. The 2016 vintage yielded wines with seamless layers of texture and structure that come to life here with a voluminous blanket of soft, supple tannin.”

Let’s raise a glass, and say goodbye to 2020 tonight at Flight Night!🍷 This is the last week of our guest favorite wines from this year, so let’s take one more sip, (or a few) and give a nod to a better 2021.

This Flight Night begins on Wednesday December 30th, and the wines and their tapas will be available until January 5th, 2021.

First, SOHO will pour a Corvidae Lenore Syrah 2016 from Washington State.

“The Lenore Syrah is aromatic with rich, sweet berry notes of blueberry, boysenberry, red currant and plum. The mouthwateting acidity is nicely balanced with firm tannins and layers of bright bramble fruit. As this wine coats the palate, underlying hints of vanilla bean, peppercorn and sweet tobacco shine through. A robust finish includes chocolate and raspberry.”

The second wine is a Le Volte Dell’ Ornellaia 2017 from Bolgheri. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“Son of a particularly hot, dry year, Le Volte dell’ Ornellaia 2017 is characterised by its usual deep ruby red colour. A pleasant bouquet of ripe red fruits and spices is sustained on the palate by crisp acidity and an open, enveloping tannic structure.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Daou Cabernet 2018 from Paso Robles. Notes on the wine,

“… currant, black cherry, cedar and eucalyptus, and displays undertones of briar blackberry and wet gravel. Ancillary aromas of coffee and cocoa are rounded out nicely with notes of crushed sage and baking spice. Finish is surprisingly elegant for a wine of such power. Silky and smooth, ending on lovely notes of sweet cherry and boysenberry.”
