So we find ourselves in the last week of March, and the last week of featuring our California wines and tapas pairings for Flight Nights. It was quick, and fun, and aren’t those the best types of experiences? We certainly hope that you enjoyed yourself as much as we did, and that you’ll come see us for the last set of Cali wine tastings before next Wednesday rolls around!

This Flight Night begins on Wednesday, March 27th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through April 2nd.

First, SOHO will pour a Marietta Cellars “Christo” 2015 from North Coast, California.  The winemaker offers,

“Beautiful blackberry fruit, peppery herbs, underbrush, and a hint of olive all give way to a medium to full bodied, plump, textured beauty that shines for its charm, texture, and pleasure-bent style.”

Next, SOHO will pour a Jackson Estate Pinot Noir 2016 from Anderson Valley. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“The wine shows its cool-climate origins in bright acidity, accenting the rich flavors of
blueberries, black cherries, cola and dusty spices. Firm minerality grounds the wine.
The tannins are powerful, yet with silkiness on the finish, while oak barrel aging brings
a smoky, sandalwood note. Beautiful to drink now on release, this Pinot will age well over the next six-plus years easily.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Marietta Cellars “Arme” Cabernet ‘15 from the North Coast. Notes on the wine,

“The 2015 Armé, Marietta’s Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend, is fabulous, not to mention a tremendous value. Grilled herbs, plums, blueberry jam, spice, mint and leather give the 2015 its nuance and complexity.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joey Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

Marietta Cellars “Christo” 2015
64% Syrah, 23% Grenache, 7% Petite Sirah, 6% Viognier
Paired with: Elk Tartare, Curry Mayo, Toast

Jackson Estate Pinot Noir 2016
100% Pinot Noir
Paired with: Mini Pork Ramen, Pork Belly, Egg, Noodles

Marietta Cellars “Arme” Cabernet ‘15
83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 6% Malbec, 2% Petit Verdot
Paired with: Steamed Clams, House Pancetta, Baby Potatoes

Sample each wine in a flight (three three-ounce glasses) for $14.25. Or, pair the flight with a tapa plate for $19. Try a full glass of wine and tapa plate for $13. Of course, the wines and tapas are available individually as well ($9.50/glass and $6.50/tapas)

We are having so much fun with Chef Joey’s tapas! His culinary creativity is SHINING, and our awesome Sommelier Jeff Gelfond is doing a fabulous job of choosing wines to compliment the food! We’re still in the region of California, and our guests are loving it. Will we see you this week to try our wine and tapas pairings before they’re gone? We hope so!

This Flight Night begins on Wednesday, March 20th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through March 26th.

First, SOHO will pour a Louis Pommery Brut Sparkling NV from California.  The winemaker offers,

“The resulting sparkling wine fills the palate with sublime notes of green apples with harmonizing acidity and minerality, before leading to a delicate essence of lemon mousse with a buttery vitality, and finishing with an aroma of peaches and apricots. The jovial wine pairs perfectly with meals, but is equally enjoyable without accompaniment.”

Next, SOHO will pour a Steele “Block N” Pinot Noir 2015 from Santa Barbara. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“This vineyard, given its coastal influence, produces a wine with freshly picked strawberry, bing cherries, cloves, and spice, aromas and flavors. But still has a balance of acidity and a finish that lingers of sweet tobacco and spices.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Lake & Vine Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 from Red Hill, Lake County. Notes on the wine,

“This wine exudes a deep purple color in the glass with stunning aromas of concentrated plums, dark cherries and blackberries with subtle hints of spice and currant. Only about 3% of wines are grown above 1,100 feet elevation, Lake & Vine Cabernet Sauvignon is one of them.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joey Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

Louis Pommery Brut Sparkling NV
96% Chardonnay, 4% Pinot Noir
Paired with: “Mother & Child Reunion” Fried Chicken Salad Deviled Eggs

Steele “Block N” Pinot Noir 2015
100% Pinot Noir
Paired with: Welsh Rabbit, Truffle, Baguette

Lake & Vine Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 3% Syrah, 3% Petit Verdot
Paired with: Braised Oxtail, Fried Plantain, Jerk Sauce

Sample each wine in a flight (three three-ounce glasses) for $14.25. Or, pair the flight with a tapa plate for $19. Try a full glass of wine and tapa plate for $13. Of course, the wines and tapas are available individually as well ($9.50/glass and $6.50/tapas)

Chardonnay. Petit Syrah. Cabernet. Three classic varieties that you can’t go wrong with when you’re drinking California wines! Not only did we pick exceptional vineyards, but their tapas that Chef Joey prepared to match are stand-alone amazing, but the whole experience combined is extraordinary.  It *kinda* feels like Spring in Atlanta, so let’s celebrate and raise our glasses to warmer weather!

This Flight Night begins on Wednesday, March 13th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through March 19th.

First, SOHO will pour a Mount Eden Chardonnay 2015 from Edna Valley.  The winemaker offers,

“Hints of cardamom, anise and hazelnut add interest to the core lemon, mineral flavors. Of all Mount Eden’s estate-grown wines, the Chardonnay is most in need of further bottle aging at release, requiring an additional two to four years to fully reveal its true character. Many vintages are still fresh and enjoyable after fifteen years, explaining why Mount Eden Estate Chardonnay is considered one of California’s longest-lived white wines.”

Next, SOHO will pour a Brady Petit Sirah 2016 from Paso Robles. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“The Brady Vineyard Petite Sirah is rich and luxurious, featuring deep crimson color and aromas reminiscent of blackberry, and black pepper with subtle notes of roasted vanilla and spice. On tasting, it shows opulent texture and savory berry and bramble flavors that echo the aromas. The wine is luscious, full-bodied with balancing gentle acidity and just a hint of velvety oak that lengthens the finish.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Aerena Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 from Red Hill, Lake County. Notes on the wine,

“Not afraid to show its true cabernet core, the 2016 ÆRENA Cabernet is uplifting with fruit and floral components coming together in perfect balance. Soft and supple tannins offer great approachability.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joey Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

Mount Eden Chardonnay 2015
100% Chardonnay
Paired with: Smoked Fish Dip, House Crackers

Brady Petit Sirah 2016
100% Petit Sirah
Paired with: Fried Conch Fritters, Citrus Sour Cream

Aerena Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Cabernet Sauvignon
Paired with: Short Rib & Potato Pierogi, House Crème Fraîche

Sample each wine in a flight (three three-ounce glasses) for $14.25. Or, pair the flight with a tapa plate for $19. Try a full glass of wine and tapa plate for $13. Of course, the wines and tapas are available individually as well ($9.50/glass and $6.50/tapas)

What a treat! California wines are what’s next for Flight Nights at SOHO! And here’s something fun: Typically we pair tapas based on particular wines for our flight options, but this month, we’re trying something new.  Chef Joey Zelinka will create three original tapas of his choosing, and our sommelier, Jeff Gelfond will use his expertise to pair wines to them! It’s all around goodness that you’ll love to experience when you dine with us!

This Flight Night begins on Wednesday, March 6th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through March 12th.

Bien Nacido Fog

First, SOHO will pour a Tobias Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2017 from Mendocino.  The winemaker offers,

“Bright aromas of honeysuckle, green apple, pineapple, light lemon, and grapefruit lead to a crisp blend of flavors including white peach, honeydew melon, fresh green apple, passion fruit, and muted citrus; the perfect wine for spring and summer. Refreshing by itself or as a great pairing with many dishes including light cheeses, white fish, chicken dishes, grilled vegetables, and salads.”

Next, SOHO will pour a Steele Writer’s Block Pinot Noir 2016 from Lake County. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“The oak is light and the tannins soft, this wine shows with aromas and flavors of dark cherries, ripe red raspberry, finishing with notes of brown sugar. The wine is fermented in a stainless steel tank, and smaller fermentation bins as we utilize both cool and warm fermentation temperatures with these
vineyards. We fermented this wine using native yeast.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Morgan Cote du Crow’s 2016 from Monterey. Notes on the wine,

“This Rhone-style blend has a rich ruby red color, highlighted with purple edges. Raspberry compote and maraschino cherry aromas jump out of the glass. The wine is medium-bodied with soft tannins, offering a mouthful of black fruit and rose petal. Its weight and balance make it a perfect pairing with anything off the grill.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joey Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

Tobias Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2017
100% Sauvignon Blanc
Paired with: Bay Scallop Ceviche, Coconut & Lime

First, SOHO will pour a Villadoria Barbaresco D.O.C.G. 2015 from Barbaresco, Piedmont.  The winemaker offers,

“A traditional Barbaresco, it is garnet red in colour with ruby highlights, and has an ethereal nose with rose and violet, red fruit jam, raspberry and also vanilla, nutmeg, white pepper and aniseed aromas. It is full-bodied in the mouth, with tannins which never predominate, and is balanced and long lasting.”

Next, SOHO will pour a Bertani Ripasso D.O.C.G. 2016 from Valpolicella, Veneto. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“It has an intense purple-red colour with purplish highlights. It is velvety and well-balanced, full and round while maintaining a lively and intense grip, with a sapid aftertaste.”
