Italy’s wines are taking the forefront of February at SOHO! And what a love affair it is….three beautiful red wines and some savory, delicious tapas paired perfectly with them on cold rainy days in Atlanta. These wines are some of our favorites, and we are so happy to share them with our guests, so come see us!

This Flight Night begins on Wednesday, February 20th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through February 26th.

First, SOHO will pour a Zaccagnini Montepulciano d Abruzzo ‘14 from Abruzzo, Italy .  The winemaker offers,

“Intense ruby red with purplish reflections; intense nose, characteristic of the primary aromas of the grape variety; a fruity element, robust and full-bodied, well-balanced with its tannins.”

Next, SOHO will pour a Varvaglione Vigne & Vini Primitivo 2013 from Primitivo di Manduria, Puglia. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“Primitivo grapes are harvested from old free standing vineyards. Its colour is deep red with very nice violet hints. Its bouquet is really intense and reminiscent of fruit jam, blackcurrants, cherries, mulberries, cocoa and liquorice. With its round, smooth taste with fruity notes and an aromatic aftertaste, Papale is ideal with all dishes, in particular braised and red stewed meat.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Tenuta Frescobaldi di Castiglioni 2016 from Montespertoli, Tuscany. Notes on the wine,

“The color is a very deep, intense rubyred color. The bouquet is intriguing and
varied, combining blackcurrant and cherry aromas with spicy flavors of black pepper and vanilla. In the mouth it is fullbodied and enveloping, with elegant toasted notes that create an intense and harmonious finish.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joey Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

Zaccagnini Montepulciano d Abruzzo ‘14
Montepulciano, Sangiovese
Paired with: Proscuitto Arancini, Raspberry-Basil Marmelleta

Varvaglione Vigne & Vini Primitivo 2013

Sample each wine in a flight (three three-ounce glasses) for $14.25. Or, pair the flight with a tapa plate for $19. Try a full glass of wine and tapa plate for $13. Of course, the wines and tapas are available individually as well ($9.50/glass and $6.50/tapas)

We can’t wait to see you!

It’s the stuff red wine drinkers’ dreams are made of: Italian reds are here at SOHO! We aim to bring you some delightful little gems that you wouldn’t otherwise find in Atlanta, without actually having to travel to Italy. Our paired savory tapas are to die for, so make sure you’re good and hungry when you show up!

This Flight Night begins on Wednesday, February 13th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through February 19th.

First, SOHO will pour a Monchiero Carbone Pelisa Barbera d’Alba D.O.C. 2015 from Alba, Piedmont.  The winemaker offers,

“Color: deep ruby red with bright highlights. Nose: forthrightly and fruitily intense, initial sensations of sour black cherry and cherry giving way to pleasantly earthy notes of damp soil. Bouquet: despite a lack of structure and persistence, its characteristic fruity freshness makes Pelisa eminently quaffable.”

Next, SOHO will pour a Vigneti Del Vulture Aglianico Pipoli D.O.C. ‘16 from Basilicata, Italy. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“Bright red with violet reflections. This wine has a strong aromatic integrity with hints of cherry and sour black cherry mixed with spice and vanilla. Good structure, long, balsamic finish, mature tannins and persisting aftertaste.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Tenuta di Ghizzano “Nambrot” 2015 from Peccioli, Tuscany. Notes on the wine,

“It was first made in 1996, using Merlot grapes, and has evolved over the years into a blend together with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, demonstrating the potency, warmth and character that our territory can express. It is named after the founder of the Venerosi family, whose name was Nambrot and who lived in 830.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joey Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

Monchiero Carbone Pelisa Barbera d’Alba D.O.C. 2015

Tenuta di Ghizzano “Nambrot” 2015

First, SOHO will pour a Feudo di San Gregorio Falanghina 2017 from Falanghina del Sannio DOC.  The winemaker offers,

“The color is straw yellow that contains brilliant green reflections. The perfume is intense and persistent with sensations of delicate white flowers and fruit. The taste offers freshness and balance, with a clean finish.”

Next, SOHO will pour a Castello Colle Massari Rigoleto 2014 from Montecucco, Tuscany. The wine is described by the winemaker,

“An accessible red wine, with youthful energy. It is light in body with hints of soft but dense and meaty forest berry flavours. Hints of pepper, black cherry, thyme and cold smoke are also discernible. Is a quiescent and very balancing wine. Once poured, its fruity, enticing character is revealed. Best enjoyed young.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Antinori Il Bruciato 2016 from Bolgheri, Tuscany. Notes on the wine,

“The 2016 Bruciato offers an intense ruby red color. On the nose, the aromas of ripe red berry fruit, sweet spices, and a light and fresh minty note are the most prominent sensations. The palate is well structured, persistent, and very pleasurable in its fruity finish and aftertaste.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joey Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!
