Is there really anything better than the wines and cuisine of Italy? Italy is home to some of the oldest wine-producing regions in the world, and is the world’s largest wine producer by volume.  Italian wines are known worldwide for their broad variety, and come from an impressive 20 regions!

SOHO is particularly fond of these wines, as the owners, Frank and Susan Smith regularly vacation in Italy, enjoying everything the country has to offer.  Come enjoy our favorite varietals as we introduce them week by week, and get the closest experience possible without leaving Atlanta!

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday February 7, and the wines and their tapas will be available through February 13th.

First, SOHO will pour a Borgogno Dolcetto d’Alba 2015 from Alba, Piedmont, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Intense ruby red color almost purple. Vinous, fresh and fruity in the nose, very pleasant fragrance. Dry and fragrant flavor with notes of almond.”

Next, SOHO will pour a Bertani Volpolicella Ripasso 2014 from Valpolicella. The wine is described as,

“It has an intense purple-red colour with purplish highlights. On the nose it has a very clean and intense aroma of ripe red fruit with hints of dark fruit, such as bramble, blackcurrant and ripe cherry. It is velvety and well-balanced, full and round while maintaining a lively and intense grip, with a sapid aftertaste.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Tenuta Sette Ponti Crognolo Toscana 2015 from Tuscany.  The winemaker says,

“Intense ruby in color, the wine has a fruity, spicy bouquet and ripe cherry and berries on the palate. It has the vivid acidity typical of Sangiovese, with well integrated tannins and an earthy finish.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joey Zalinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!
