For October, we’re switching things up a bit: we’ve picked 3 very different wines to pair with a particular type of food to explore the versatility of wine!  This week, you can enjoy these delightful wines with Chef Joey’s incredible beef tapas.

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday October 25th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through October 31st.

Oct Week 4-page-001

First, SOHO will pour a 2016 Stolpman Para Maria Syrah from Santa Barbara, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Para Maria already shows off its breadth and complexity at a tender young age. Lively, peppy balance and juicy brambly blackberry. Graphite and cracked pepper create an impression of seriousness with a hint of savory wood from the whole-bunch carbonic fermentation.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2013 Can Rafols Dels Caus Terraprima from Catalonia, Spain. The wine is described as,

“Colour: garnet red. Aroma: forest fruits with hints of aromatic herbs.  Taste: the wine is complex, concentrated and shows its barrel ageing. It expresses the minerality of this unique terroir, is refreshing and has a long finish.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2015 Alexander Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley.  The winemaker says,

“There are aromas of black cherry, cassis, plum, slight blueberry vanilla, oak and chocolate. In the glass there are rich flavors of cherry, cassis, blackberry, spice and chocolate. This is a fruit forward wine with nice balance and a long, juicy finish.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joe Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

2016 Stolpman Para Maria Syrah
85% Syrah, 15% Petit Verdot
Paired with: Beef Meatballs, Black Spaghetti, Red Miso-Tomato Sauce

2013 Can Rafols Dels Caus Terraprima

2015 Alexander Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet 83%, Merlot 11%, CabFranc 2%, Malbec 2%, Petit Verdot 2%

First, SOHO will pour a 2014 Alasia Barbaresco DOCG from Piedmont, Italy, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Black fruit aromas, with some savory, spicy and gently floral characters. Complex and richly flavored with black cherry, bramble and a hint of violet on the palate. Good structure and fine tannins
lead to a long rich finish.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2015 Jordan Chardonnay from Russian River Valley. The wine is described as,

“Refined aromas of green apple, pear and lemon peel with a flinty note reminiscent of Chablis. Its elegant palate echoes the bouquet with clean, bright flavors of stone fruit and citrus, backed by firm acidity where oak is an after thought. A touch of creaminess on the mid-palate is followed by lovely mineral notes that carry through an extraordinarily long finish.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2015 Chateau Cap L’ Ousteau Haut-Medoc from Haut Medoc.  The winemaker says,

“This Château Cap l’ Ousteau 2015 has a very intense and brilliant red garnet color. The nose, complex, persistent and spicy delivers cherry, black current and vanilla aromas. On the palate, the attack is supple and followed by a well balanced mouth with prune and red fruit jam notes. The finish is long.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joe Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

100% Nebbiolo
