We’ve had so much fun exploring the New World wines of the Pacific Northwest, that it’s tough to say that it’s the last week of this region at SOHO! We’re going out with a bang though, bringing you a fruity Pinot Gris, a classic-style Pinot Noir, and a juicy Cabernet Sauvignon that is guaranteed to please.  Chef Joe’s three perfectly-paired tapas are creative and delicious, and will round out your flight experience! Come visit us this final week of the Pacific Northwest, for next week is a new month and a new region.

PNW-case-of-the-mondays

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday September 27th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through October 3rd.

First, SOHO will pour a 2016 Anne Amie Pinot Gris from Willamette Valley, and offers the following tasting notes,

“AROMA magnolia, pear, gardenia, white peach, jasmine, powdered candy, gala apple, straw.  FLAVOR Asian pear, Granny Smith apples,
white peach, Meyer lemon, white tea.  FINISH dry, long, rich.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2015 Patricia Green Reserve Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley. The wine is described as,

“The Reserve program has evolved from an every-so-often produced bottling to the main stay of our production. It allows us to use barrels from our vineyard designated sites that we think don’t represent what we think that site’s profile truly is. Sometimes that is based on vine age, clonal material or location within the site.  This allows us to create a blended wine that has a degree of consistency to it each vintage that is of high-quality and will retail for $27.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2015 Canvasback Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain, WA.  The winemaker says,

“This fragrant wine begins with alluring aromas of blackberry, plum and mountain huckleberry intermingled with brighter notes of Bing cherry and ripe wild strawberry. As it evolves in the glass, layers of anise and sarsaparilla are revealed, alongside hints of caramel and espresso from barrel aging. On the palate, the entry is supple, weighty and rounded, with deliciously ripe tannins and juicy acidity coming together to create a classically structured Cabernet.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joe Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

2016 Anne Amie Pinot Gris

Paired with: Moule Frites- PEI Mussels,Pinot Gris-Garlic Broth, House Fries

2015 Patricia Green Reserve Pinot Noir

2015 Canvasback Cabernet Sauvignon
87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 2% Malbec 2% Cab Franc
Paired with: Beef Short Rib & Tagliatelle, Roasted Mushrooms, Onion, Cabernet Demi

Sample each wine in a flight (three three-ounce glasses) for $14.25. Or, pair the flight with a tapa plate for $19. Try a full glass of wine and tapa plate for $13. Of course, the wines and tapas are available individually as well ($9.50/glass and $6.50/tapas).

We at SOHO love a good success story, and the Pacific Northwest wine region is an amazing example of overcoming advertisty!  Not only did the vinters prove the experts wrong, they’ve created a world-class wine region, and have not only succeeded in growing grapes, but expanded the range of viable grapes as well!

There are several top-tier winemakers making amazing wines here, and it’s not just the Pinot Noir, which of course, is exceptional.  This week, we also showcase a Chenin Blanc and a Syrah that will stop you in your tracks.  We invite you to sip and swirl some of the best wines that Washington and Oregon have to offer.  We know you won’t be disappointed!

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday September 20th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through September 26th.

First, SOHO will pour a 2015 L’Ecole Chenin Blanc from Columbia Valley, and offers the following tasting notes,

“This fresh and vibrant Chenin Blanc shows highly expressive aromatics of pink grapefruit, passion fruit and orange blossom, with flavors of lychee, tangerine and apple on a balanced, crisp mineral finish.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2014 Bethel Heights Estate Pinot Noir from Eola-Amity Hills. The wine is described as,

“Floral black pepper and warm Christmas spice frame red fruit aromas of currant and pomegranate. The palate enjoys volume without heavy weight, and the punchy red fruits carry a savory depth that fills the front, mid, and back palate. The finish is lengthy and high toned, the silky tannins focused by bright, balanced acidity, suggesting a promising longevity in the cellar.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2015 K Milbrandt Syrah from Wahluke Slope.  The winemaker says,

“Shimmering, this wine is alive with energy. Vibrant aromatics, red and black fruits and heaps of minerality on a long focused finish. Great today, great in ten years, the Great Milbrandt!”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joe Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

This week we have a steel barrel Chardonnay, a delightfully smooth Pinot Noir, and a full bodied red blend that will win your heart.  Chef Joe has created three perfectly paired small plates for your optimal dining experience, so come see us before they sell out!

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday September 13th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through September 19th.

First, SOHO will pour a 2014 Chehalem Inox Chardonnay from Willamette Valley, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Rich, white and yellow fruit is in the forefront, with peaks of citrus zest, light spice and mineral, honey, and white blossoms. On the palate we see slightly bruised apple with the tartness of Granny Smiths, dried mango, finishing out to a long, broad, rich finish. This is INOX at the pinnacle of balance, profiting from the ripe summer and the cooler harvest period to give us both richness and acid, as well as great purity of fruit.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2015 Anne Amie Vineyards Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley.  The wine is described as,

“AROMA – dark cherry, sweet tobacco, dusty road, orange peel, maple candy, cardamom, black tea, kirsch FLAVOR – sweet dark cherries and berries, forest floor, anise, dark chocolate nibs, chai, hint of black pepper FINISH – long with rich, smooth tannins and acidity.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2015 Slight of Hand Cellars Spellbinder from Columbia Valley.  The winemaker says,

“Elegant and full bodied, while still approachable, it boasts fresh fruit aromas and flavors of black cherries, raspberries, and currants, with just a hint of cedar from older French oak barrels in which it was aged. The tannins are completely resolved, providing a plush textured finish, bouyed by its fresh acidity.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joe Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

2014 Chehalem Inox Chardonnay

2015 Slight of Hand Cellars Spellbinder

Hello Fall! With the cooler weather setting into Atlanta, it’s a great time to be sitting on a patio, and drinking red wines.  September brings Pacific Northwest wines at SOHO, and we couldn’t be more pleased to offer our guests some of our favorites!  Come familiarize yourself with this region, and enjoy the wines and their tapas pairings!

Why is the Pacific Northwest so unique?  Washington State and Oregon are amazing wine producing states, each in their own right.  What sets them apart from many other New World wine producing areas is their ability to straddle the stylistic fence.  Their warm weather days and cool nights is what gives them the lively ripe fruit of New World wines with the refreshing acidity of Old World wines.

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday September 6th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through September 12th.

First, SOHO will pour a 2016 Stoller Pinot Noir Rosé from Dundee Hills, Willamette Valley, and offers the following tasting notes,

“We are proud to celebrate more than a decade of Rosé production at Stoller Family Estate. Whole cluster pressed and fermented in stainless steel, this Pinot Noir Rosé is exquisitely aromatic with strong notes of ruby red grapefruit and citrus. The palate shows tropical fruits while remaining bright and balanced by mouthwatering acidity.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2014 Point North Pinot Noir from Oregon.  The wine is described as,

“Our Oregon Pinot Noir is deep garnet in color with complex aromas of raspberry, blackberry and black pepper with a touch of leather. On the palate, the wine is medium- bodied with dark fruit flavors, raspberries and earthy spice notes. The wine has a bright mouth feel integrated with soft round tannins for a lengthy and complex finish.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2013 Chateau St Michelle Indian Wells Red Blend from Columbia Valley.  The winemaker says,

“The Indian Wells Red Blend is an easy to enjoy red from warmer climate vineyards.  The wine reflects the rich, round powerful style of Washington fruit, highlighting seven varietals. It is a true example of the art of blending. The wine offers jammy boysenberry flavors from the Syrah with a luscious concentration from the Merlot.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joe Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!
