Sonoma County, California, stretches from the Pacific Coast in the west to the Mayacamas Mountains in the east, and is home to almost 60,000 acres of vineyards and more than 400 wineries! There are 17 American Viticultural Areas (AVAs, or appellations), each with its own distinctive characteristics and countless international awards. We love Sonoma wines, and we’re excited to feature them in August! Plan to stop by, treat yourself, and try our our wine flights each week!
This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday August 2nd, and the wines and their tapas will be available through August 8th.
First, SOHO will pour a 2015 Alexander Valley Vineyards Rosé of Sangiovese from Sonoma County, and offers the following tasting notes,
“This vintage is a deep pink color with an orange tinge. Aromas of guava, strawberry, watermelon, raspberry and mint explode out of the glass. The flavors of watermelon, strawberry, peach, berry and a hint of minerality keep you coming back for another sip. A medium bodied Rosé with crisp acidity, a dry finish and a very long aftertaste.”
Next, SOHO will pour a 2015 Sivas Sonoma Pinot Noir from Sonoma Coast. The wine is described as,
“Our Sivas-Sonoma Pinot Noir delivers an elegant nose with mildly ripe cranberry, Thai basil and hints of licorice. Vibrant, clean acidity and plentiful French oak notes from barrel aging. A medium-bodied, versatile wine with bold cherry and pomegranate flavors. Bring this wine along for the perfect dinner date.”
Finally, SOHO will pour a 2014 Gundlach Bundschu Mountain Cuvee from Sonoma County. The winemaker says,
“A Bordeaux-inspired blend for everyday life that’s soft, lush and smooth but never sweet. Dangerously easy-drinking, this Merlot and Cabernet-based red wine offers balance, food-friendly structure and approachability. It’s crafted for everyday enjoyment in Sonoma Valley.”
SOHO’s Executive Chef Joe Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!
