Ask us if we felt that we did France justice this month, and you will be met with a resounding “yes!” We came, we drank wine, and we had a really great time munching on the tapas that our amazing chef created to pair with the wine flights!

Sadly, there’s only one week left to enjoy France and all its splendor, but you can bet your bottom dollar we are going to have fun while doing it! If you haven’t stopped by this month, then you’re overdue for a visit…

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday July 26th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through August 1st.

First, SOHO will pour a 2015 Frédéric Esmonin “Les Gen ric Esmonin “Les Genévriéres” Bourgogne from Burgundy, and offers the following tasting notes,

“The Frederic Esmonin “Les Genevrieres” glows light red in the glass, yielding aromas of tart cranberry, ripe strawberry, and hints of brown spices. On the palate, soft cherry fruit eases into fleshed-out raspberry elements. The finish is bright and elongated, tying together a very charming, easy-to-drink Burgundy.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2014 Domaine de la Noblaie Chinon from Loire Valley.  The wine is described as,

“The Chinon rouge from the property is a case study in the balance between power and elegance, spice and softness, and fat and acidity. Jerome’s rouge is produced from a single block called “Les Chiens-Chiens:” 40-80 year old Cabernet Franc vines. This Chinon is lovely and perfumed, with tremendous length in the mouth.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2014 Château Mongravey Margaux from Cru Bourgeois.  The winemaker says,

“Intense deep purple robe. Seductive and intense nose of cassis, raspberries, spices, vanilla and unctuous grilled and toasty aromas. Well structured wine that is at the same time rich and lush in the mouth with smooth tannins and a very long finish.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joe Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

2015 Frédéric Esmonin “Les Gen ric Esmonin “Les Genévriéres” Bourgogne
100% Pinot Noir
Paired with: Whipped Goat Cheese Crostini, Orange-Cherry Marmalade

2014 Domaine de la Noblaie Chinon
100% Cabernet Franc
Paired with: Lamb Wellington, Roasted Red Potatoes, Chinon-Mushroom Demi

2014 Château Mongravey Margaux
70% Cabernet Sauvgnon, 23% Merlot, 2% Cab Franc
Paired with: Braised Pork Belly Tacos, Mole Verde, Shaved Onion and Cilantro

Sample each wine in a flight (three three-ounce glasses) for $14.25. Or, pair the flight with a tapa plate for $19. Try a full glass of wine and tapa plate for $13. Of course, the wines and tapas are available individually as well ($9.50/glass and $6.50/tapas).

If you love France as much as we do, then you’ll understand why we pick the wines that we do, and offer the tapas to pair with them!  The French culture of enjoying wine while eating light and flavorful cuisine is well known around the world.  It is, indeed, a way of life, and a magnificent way of savoring the small things on a day to day basis.  We aim to adopt this practice at SOHO; won’t you join us?

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday July 19th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through July 25th.

First, SOHO will pour a 2014 Domaine des Hâtes Chablis from Chablis, Burgundy, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Clearly it has the scope to improve much more over the next couple of years. It is richness than the Petit Chablis and its natural weight of fruit almost masks its strong minerality. However, as it opens out in the glass the complexity starts to flourish. Impressive. Drink from 2016.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2015 M. Chapoutier Belleruche Rouge from Côtes du Rhone. The wine is described as,

“Garnet red in color, this wine emits aromas of red fruits such as morello cherries and spices of licorice and grey pepper. In the mouth this wine has a great structure with firm and silky tannins.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2014 Gerard Bertrand “Kosmos” from  Languedoc-Roussillon. The winemaker says,

“Kosmos has a deep ruby-red color. This powerful, elegant and nicely-balanced cuvee is endowed with generous red fruits aromas. The tannins are mature, subtle and the lingering finish is amazingly intense. Kosmos has also an important potential for cellaring.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joe Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

2014 Domaine des Hâtes Chablis
100% Chardonnay
Paired with: Proscuitto & Arugula Flatbread, Piquillo, Pickled Shallot, Grated Idiazabal

2015 M. Chapoutier Belleruche Rouge
Grenache, Syrah
Paired with: Mojo Grilled Duck Breast, Cilantro Black Rice & Runner Beans, Cote du Rhone Butter

2014 Gerard Bertrand “Kosmos”
Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Mourvédre, Marselan
Paired with: Grilled Prime Sirloin, Kosmos Wine Reduction, Mac & Cheese

Sample each wine in a flight (three three-ounce glasses) for $14.25. Or, pair the flight with a tapa plate for $19. Try a full glass of wine and tapa plate for $13. Of course, the wines and tapas are available individually as well ($9.50/glass and $6.50/tapas).

We’re so happy to be celebrating the spirit of France and its wines on Bastille Day! Granted, our July flight feature IS France, but it’s a happy coincidence to be able to celebrate the unity of the French people as well!  Join the party this week, try some of our delicious wines and their tapas, and let’s raise our glasses to this amazing country!

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday July 12th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through July 18th.

First, SOHO will pour a 2016 Henri Bourgeois Sancerre “Les Baronnes” from Sancerre, Loire Valley, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Les Baronnes” is typical of the Sancerre appellation and the Domaine Henri Bourgeois style. Subtle yet powerful, its persistence and harmony find their origin in the exposition and quality of the terroir. Crispy, and fruity this wine has some lime, apple and gunflint aromas balanced by ripe tropical and yellow orchard fruits.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2014 Maison L’ Envoyé Morgan Côte du Py from Beaujolias, Burgundy. The wine is described as,

“The 2014 Morgon shows aromas of ripe raspberries and boysenberries complemented by underlying orange rind nuances. Sweet wild strawberries and garrigue flavors emerge on the deeply layered palate which is held together with seamless fine grained tannins and a distinct, acid driven minerality.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2013 Boutinot “Les Coteaux Schisteux” Séguret Côtes du Rhône Villages from Côtes du Rhone. The winemaker says,

“.. the nose is explosive, plush and opulent as ever, layered with exotic spice, cracked black pepper and of course streaked with crushed vanillin. The palate is instantly appealing, polished and smooth on entry but steeped in depth and texture as the flavours swirl around, lengthen and delight.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joe Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

2016 Henri Bourgeois Sancerre “Les Baronnes”
100% Sauvignon Blanc
Paired with: Grilled Swordfish Skewers, Sancerre-Saffron Aioli

2014 Maison L’ Envoyé Morgan Côte du Py

Did you know that if you drank a new wine each night, it would take 8 years to drink your way through France?  Boy, do we like a good challenge!

With over 200 indigenous wine varieties–from the well-known Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, to the lesser-known Prunelard and Savagnin, there’s an amazing array of options to try!  We are going to have so much fun exploring 11 of our favorite regions!

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday July 5th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through July 11th.

France12x16

First, SOHO will pour a 2014 Famille Hugel Pinot Blanc from Alsace, France and offers the following tasting notes,

“The 2014 Alcance Cabernet is a true reflection of the two appellations from which it hails: the freshness imparted from the Maule grapes harmonizes beautifully with the superb structure of the Maipo fruit. This is a deep, intense, complex wine with aromas of maraschino cherries and cassis. The bright, vivacious palate explodes with fruit over powerful yet refined tannins.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2014 Delas Freres Crozes Hermitage from Crozes-Hermitage. The wine is described as,

“The Catena Cabernet Franc Appellation El Cepillo presents a purple color with red ruby tones. The nose offers elegant aromas of spices, and fresh herbs as thyme and rosemary, red berries, cassis and raspberries, with layers of cedar. The mouthfeel is full and rich with cassis, raspberries flavors and notes of black pepper and oregano . The finish is bright and fresh with finely grained tannins.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2015 Chateau Cap L’ Ousteau Haut-Medoc from Haut Medoc. The winemaker says,

“Rich flavors of ripe plum, cherry and dark currant with notes of mocha. Velvet finish filled with hints of dark chocolate.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joe Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

2014 Famille Hugel Pinot Blanc
50% Pinot Blanc, 50% Auxerroir

2015 Chateau Cap L’ Ousteau Haut-Medoc
