Welcome to rainy season in Atlanta! While we’re all a little waterlogged, it gives us a good excuse to meet up and drink some fabulous wines from South America! For those of you that love South American reds, this week there’s three to try. A malbec, a Carmenère, and a Cabernet that you’ll truly be able to appreciate when paired with Chef Joe’s tapas! Get ready for a wonderful flight experience, and stay dry out there, Atlanta!
This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday June 21st, and the wines and their tapas will be available through June 28th.
First, SOHO will pour a 2014 Alcance Carmenère from Maule, Chile and offers the following tasting notes,
“The 2014 Tannat has the classic flavors of a cooler year with a nice mix of red and black fruit along with white pepper and other spices. The mouth is rich, vibrant, and fresh with juicy and lively tannins. There is a beautifully balanced energy to the wine as the vineyards start to age.”
Next, SOHO will pour a 2014 Altos Las Hormigas Malbec from Uco Valley, Argentina The wine is described as,
“Continuing in the hallmark style of Malbec from Remolinos Vineyard, this vintage shows the intense violet aromatics and bright freshness and acidity which has come to define Decero Malbec. Elegant tannin complexity reflects beautifully integrated oak tannins following 14 months in French oak.”
Finally, SOHO will pour a 2013 Famiglia Bianchi Cabernet from San Rafael, Mendoza. The winemaker says,
“Black fruit and flowers from Uco Valley Malbec laced with spicy Petit Verdot. Malbec lends freshness and smoothness, while Petit Verdot grants volume and persistence, conferring a lush, rich attack and wonderful length to the blend.”
SOHO’s Executive Chef Joe Zelinka has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!
