Right now in Atlanta, everything is covered in a heavy coating of green pollen which is inhaled and consumed by everyone who lives in this city.  So, the pertinent question should be, “What pairs well with tree pollen?”  Since we don’t have a great answer for that, let’s just stick with what we know, which are these lovely, complex California reds that have an amazing ability to cut through all the Spring green dust around here!

On a side note, our amazing new Chef de Cuisine, Joey Zelinka is creating dishes that we, and our guests are absolutely raving about!  If you haven’t tried our new tapas and specials, then hurry up and come see us, you won’t be disappointed!  Here’s a tissue, so bless you, Atlanta! Enjoy this week’s flight!

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday March 29th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through April 4th.

First, SOHO will pour a 2015 La Petite Grace Pinot Noir from Monterey, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Deep, intense garnet color in the glass, aromas of black cherries, brown sugar and mocha set the stage for a robust palate of concentrated fruit flavors and textured mouthfeel, anchored by Pinot Noir’s signature smooth acidity. Round, soft and full-bodied with excellent weight in the mid-palate, layers of black cherry, dark chocolate, spice and coffee bean unfold with earthy undertones of chaparral and truffle.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2014 Ancient Peaks Renegade from Paso Robles.  The wine is described as,

“…concentrated red and black fruit aromas with suggestions of cedar, smoked bacon and high-toned oak. The palate is prodigious and intense, packed with velvety layers of boysenberry, black cherry, blueberry and cranberry, with trailing hints of vanilla, caramel, coffee and black pepper. The fruit extends lavishly into the finish, braced by fine, integrated tannins and juicy acidity.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2014 Justin Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles. The winemaker says,

“Full bodied with bright black cherry, blackcurrant and berry fruit with an underpinning of oak barrel accents on entry. The mid palate shows continued fruit with savory herbal notes, mint and a hint of violet. The finish is clean, long and layered with lingering dark fruit surrounded by soft chewy tannins balanced by crisp acidity and subtle floral notes.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Joey Zelinka, has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

It can easily be argued that California wine comes from the most interesting soils and terroirs for wine lovers, wine makers and wine growers alike.  Being wine lovers ourselves, we’re proud to offer wines from the delightfully varied regions of California, especially hard to find gems that you wouldn’t otherwise see on typical wine menus!

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday March 22nd, and the wines and their tapas will be available through March 28th.

First, SOHO will pour a 2013 Viñas 3 Row Eleven Pinot Noir, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Opulent flavors of red cherries combined with medium toasted French oak.  Vinas 3 2013 Pinot Noir can hold its own with any food pairing. It has generous extraction and plenty of soft tannins.  The wine is velvety smooth.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2015 The Pairing Red Blend.  The wine is described as,

“Classic aromas of cedar and cassis.  Pure expression of black and red fruit with lovely herbal notes of sincere cabernet sauvignon. A plush texture combined with a rigid backbone of tannin structure make this wine a truly memorable drinking experience.  Classy and regal.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2015 Daou Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles. The winemaker says,

“Smooth, yet robust aromas of blackberry, black currant, and blueberries are infused with sage, dried herbs, espresso bean, and dark chocolate.  Secondary aromas of hints of cigar box and vanilla fill the nose. Bold and full-bodied on the palate, this wine offers flavors of dark cherry and cassis with subtle mocha and truffle nuances. A firm but smooth texture of pure blackberry fruit and coffee brings this balanced wine a well-rounded finish backed by a great tannin structure.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef, Joey Zelinka, has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

First, SOHO will pour a 2014 Treana Blanc from the Central Coast, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Pale gold in color, enticing fruit aromas of pineapple, guava and Mandarin orange are accentuated by floral notes of honeysuckle and citrus blossom. On the palate, the entry is plush with a seductive, silky texture that complements the harmonious blend of tropical, citrus and stone fruit flavors that are softened by creamy vanilla, clove and nutmeg.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2015 Lyric by Etude Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara.  The wine is described as,

“Rich in ripe cherry, red raspberry and fresh strawberry, this youthful Pinot Noir drinks complex with hints of cinnamon, cardamom, sandalwood and cola. Offering an elegant structure, silky tannins and bright acidity, this Pinot Noir is captivating in its youth and makes a wonderful counterpart to a variety of dishes.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2014 The Arsonist Matchbook red blend. The winemaker says,

“… alluring aromas of black currant, cranberry and mocha that intermingle with spice and black pepper. Sweet wild berry fruit flavors on the entry, dry as the wine progresses across the palate. First, SOHO will pour a 2014 The Arsonist Chardonnay from Dunnigan Hills, Yolo County, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Luscious and rich with a seamless integration of oak and fruit characters, Matchbook’s 2014 The Arsonist Chardonnay showcases the quality of the Dunnigan Hills. Enticing aromas of creamy caramel and fresh pear mingle with nutmeg and butterscotch. Honey, Crenshaw melon and green fig bring this dense wine to life with hints of toasty oak in the mid-palate.  The Arsonist is big and creamy, yet welcoming in its nuanced synthesis of flavors.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2013 Brassfield Estate “Eruption” from High Valley, Lake County.  The wine is described as,

“The 2013 Eruption is rich and intense. The wine exhibits aromas of blackberries, fresh baked bread, stewed plums, and a touch of tar, giving way to flavors that are jammy, ripe and unctuous. The palate explodes with ripe blueberries, mixed berry tart, fresh tobacco leaf, and toasty vanilla notes. The texture of Eruption is perhaps its most distinguishing trait mouth-coating with an endless finish.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2015 St Huberts “The Stag” North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon from the North Coast, CA. The winemaker says,

“Blueberry, brown sugar, sweet-fruit, plum and blackberry aromas persist with hints of dark chocolate, elderberry and nutmeg characters.  Packed with exuberant and youthful black, red and blue fruit, complemented by notes of stewed capsicum, pepper and spice.”
