Wednesday are hard, we know.  It’s the middle of the week, and it seems like it’s never going to end.  Honestly, the best thing you can do to stay sane is to treat yourself mid-week to something that makes you happy.  What makes YOU happy?

We don’t know what that may be for you, but we DO know that we can offer up what makes US happy.  The simple pleasure in life like good wine, good food, and good people. This month’s Italian wines let you seek the small pleasure in life. These wines are like Italy itself: beautifully balanced, harmonious, and pleasing to the palate!

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday February 22nd, and the wines and their tapas will be available through February 28th.  Enjoy!

First, SOHO will pour a Piazzo Barbaresco 2013 DOCG from Piedmonte, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Color: Deep garnet red with a slight orange hue.  Bouquet: An aristocratic nose of red fruit jam, withered violets and geraniums, with hints of cinnamon and green pepper.  Taste: A warm, dry, and full-bodied palate packed with structure and a long aromatic finish.”

Next, SOHO will pour a Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino 2014 DOC from Montalcino.  The wine is described as,

“Intense ruby red color. Fruity bouquet with red berry notes. Very well structured, yet soft, long-lasting flavor with smooth, velvety tannins.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a Chianti Classico Il Brunone Riserva 2005 DOCG from Chianti Classico. The winemaker says,

“A wine with a deep ruby red colour; the impact on the nose is complex, intense and long with typical sweet violet and black berry fragrance. In the mouth, it is a full body, harsh, with well-balanced tannins wine. A broad complex of aromas enriched by just a hint of toasty oak.  Overall, a beautifully harmonious wine.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef, Jeff Sigler, has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

Imagine, if you will: It’s a clear, warm day in Italy.  The sun is shining, and people are going about their daily routines around you.  You are sitting on a beautiful patio, surrounded by green trees, red flowers, and little bits of Italian conversations from the locals. You sip a glass of Barolo, and nibble on Antipasto without a care in the world.

Back to reality!  Most of us are NOT in Italy, but it’s really nice to pretend, yes?  This month at SOHO, we aim to bring you (as close as possible) this experience with Italian wines and tapas pairings specially chosen by Jeff Gelfond and Frank Smith, our resident wine guys!  Enjoy…

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday February 15th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through February 21st.

First, SOHO will pour a 2013 Pipoli Aglianico del Vulture DOC  from Basilicata, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Well-knit and fresh, with dusty tannins and ground spice layered with flavors of crushed mulberry, mocha, bergamot and herbs de Provence. Silky in texture and appealing, this is lightly juicy through to the expressive finish.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2014 Lamùri Nero D’Avola Sicilia DOC from Sicily.  The wine is described as,

“Intense ruby-red in color, Lamùri offers lush aromas of black cherry, black fruits, vanilla, tobacco, and wild herbs.  On the palate, velvety tannins and refreshing acidity make for an elegant, expressive, crowd-pleasing wine.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2013 Papale Primitivo di Manduria Linea Oro DOP from Puglia. The winemaker says,

“In the bouquet dark berry fruits and some pleasantly stinky minerals. On the palate very ripe dark fruits, some metal, smoke, sweetness, mild acidity and tannin. Certainly a pleasant wine.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef, Jeff Sigler, has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

Oh Italy, how we love you!  If you’ve never actually been, aren’t you still in love with the IDEA of Italy? We think so, and for good reason!  The wine, the food, the views; it’s tough to pick just one thing to nurture your crush of Italy.  So we won’t ask you to choose.  We’ll just hand you food and wine pairings for the entire month of February!  Saluti!

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday February 8th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through February 14th.

While many think of February as the month of hearts and love, is there a better way to celebrate than with the love of wine?  We don’t think so!  Our love of wine is highlighted this month with one of our very favorite regions: Italy!  Our Italian love affair shows in this month’s wines and tapas, and we hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday February 1st, and the wines and their tapas will be available through February 7th.

First, SOHO will pour a 2015 G. D. Vajra Dolcetto D’Alba from Piedmont, Italy, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Brilliant purple color. Small red fruits, sour cherry, violet and hay: an aromatic range that reminds of summer walks in the mountains… and exciting vinosity that reigns in the cellar in September.  Soft, open in the mouth and balanced, it has delicate tannins accompanied by fresh acidity.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2013 DiGiovanna Siciliani Rosso from Sicily.  The wine is described as,

“Deep red in color with shades of violet. Plush nose, black cherry and blueberries, a hint of bitter chocolate and impressive palate for this great food wine.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2012 Mazzei Chianti Classico Riserva Ser Lapo from Chianti Classico, Italy.  The winemaker says,

“Bright acid structure providing a lively quality. Cranberry, raspberry and red cherry dominate with hints of leather, cedar and cocoa powder. Some earthiness in the finish and ripe soft tannins.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef, Jeff Sigler, has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!
