Life is a lot more fun when you have something to look forward to, and we think Flight Night is just the ticket!  Both of our regular and new guests love our flights on Wednesday nights, and everyone has a particular variety of wine they favor.  This week we feature the hugely popular Rhone Blends, and all three wines are stars in their own right!  Get ready to fall in love with wine all over again, and let’s get this Flight Night started!

This week begins on Wednesday January 25th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through January 31st.

First, SOHO will pour a 2012 Terre Rouge “Les Cotes de l’Ouest, from Columbia Valley, and offers the following tasting notes,

“This 2012 vintage has beautiful color with rich, silky, wild raspberry fruit flavors laced with pepper, tar, and olive/herb tones. Aromas are raspberry, smoky, wild gamey, peppery, and cinnamon.  The wine has a clean purity of Syrah fruit that is reminiscent of many St. Joseph’s and other Northern Rhone’s. It has forward fruit flavors and great acid balance.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2014 Halter Ranch CDP from Paso Robles.  The wine is described as,

“Our Côtes de Paso is our Rhone style blend that is a combination of four varietals from our estate vineyard. Grenache provides a bright fruit forward entry. Mourvedre adds spice and meaty notes, while Syrah brings weight to the mid-palate, and Tannat ties everything together with color, tannin and acidity. Loaded with aromas of plum and dark cherry with a hint of garrique, this luscious wine has a rich mid-palate that leads to a long smooth finish.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2014 Saint Cosme Cotes du Rhone from Rhone Valley, France.  The winemaker says,

“The Château de St. Cosme Côtes du Rhône Red is a deep plum with violet reflections. Aromas of bright berry fruits and licorice give way to a medium bod-
ied palate with elegant flavors of red currant and gingerbread.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef Jeff Sigler has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

2012 Terre Rouge “Les Cotes de l’Ouest
96% Syrah, 4% Viognier
Paired with: Bresaola Carpaccio, Crispy Onions, Capers, Creamy Dijon, Toast Points

2014 Halter Ranch CDP
54% Grenache, 22% Mourvèdre, 18% Syrah and 6% Tannat
Paired with: Seared Duck Breast, Parsnip Puree, Herbs de Provence Jus

2014 Saint Cosme Cotes du Rhone
100% Syrah
Paired with: Lamb Sliders, Aged Goat Cheese, Roasted Red Pepper Aioli

Sample each wine in a flight (three three-ounce glasses) for $14.25. Or, pair the flight with a tapa plate for $19. Try a full glass of wine and tapa plate for $13. Of course, the wines and tapas are available individually as well ($9.50/glass and $6.50/tapas).

In the middle of January, everything seems to get a bit richer.  While it’s still weirdly in the 70’s in Atlanta, we all seem to be enjoying the season’s more savory food, and heavier wines to go with it.  In answer to this, we’ve chosen some lovely reds that will satisfy Winter’s call.  Enjoy!

This week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday January 18th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through January 24th.

First, SOHO will pour a 2014 Owen Roe Sharecropper Cabernet, from Columbia Valley, and offers the following tasting notes,

“Dominant Graham cracker aroma with fruity under notes leading to more graham cracker flavor on the palate with only a moderate amount of fruit. Finish is substantially dry with dark chocolate and green fruit notes.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2014 Franklin Tate Cabernet/Merlot from Margaret River.  The wine is described as,

“Regional notes of bay leaf, eucalypt and dry, tannins are supported by a lush and vibrant blue and black fruit backbone that continues on the palate for what seems like a lifetime. Absolutely delicious.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2013 Folie à Deux Cabernet from Alexander Valley.  The winemaker says,

“Aromas of black currant, cherry, dark plum and violets are balanced by notes of sage, fennel, olives, black tea and tobacco—all layered over soft, fine-grained tannins.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef, Jeff Sigler, has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!

“Her dress: brilliant dark ruby with purple hues.  On the nose: intense fresh fruit with floral notes, currants, and a hint of vanilla and chocolate.  Palate: very soft tannins with good length, a big sweetness, a nice balance and a very tasty final on strawberries.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2014 Bodegas Salentein Malbec from Uco Valley, Mendoza.  The wine is described as,

“It is notable for its intensity and complexity of its aromas of black berries with notes typical oral Malbec grown in height, breadth and concentration on the palate, with silky tannins, natural acidity and the long-nal that make it a unique wine as the terroir that originated.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2014 Pascal Toso Malbec Reserve from Maipú, Mendoza.  The winemaker says,

“This complex yet well balanced wine presents an elegant style with hints of ripe plums and raspberry fruit. Gentle tannins and slightly toasted, spice and chocolate on the palate and a long, lingering focused finish.”

First, SOHO will pour a 2015 Patricia Green Estate Pinot Noir, from Willamette Valley, and offers the following tasting notes,

“This wine has incredible pure, fruit driven and penetrating aromatics. The fruit is sweet in nature but savory in character and underlayed by a pure beam of acidity that keeps the wine in balance.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2014 Belle Glos Clark & Telephone Pinot Noir from Santa Maria Valley.  The wine is described as,

“Deep scarlet-red with lush aromas of blackberry bramble, nutmeg and a hint of caramel. The wine is fresh and exuberant in the mouth with sumptuous strawberry jam, ripe black cherry, cranberry and warm gingerbread. Perfectly balanced with refreshing acidity, this wine delivers velvety tannins and a hint of toffee that carries through its long finish.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2014 Luli Pinot Noir from Santa Lucia Highlands.  The winemaker says,

“The 2014 Luli Pinot Noir is bright and pure, with predominately red fruits and spice. Pomegranate, bing cherry, raspberry and earl grey tea evolve from the wine.  The palate is broad and structured with climate regions as the Santa Lucia Highlands.”

SOHO’s Executive Chef, Jeff Sigler, has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!
