This time of year, (between Christmas and New Years) many people are often at a loss of what to do, how to feel, etc. The finality of the year is experienced by everyone, whether you’re sad 2016 is over, or ready to usher in 2017, it’s still an awkward week for many!
Some advice? Enjoy the calm after the storm. Call friends and family members you’ve been meaning to catch up with. Eat and drink before the New Years resolutions come flooding in, for January 1st is often a day of reckoning!
This week, we salute the final week of December 2016. We complete our tour of SOHO’s best performing wines of 2016, and this week’s Flight Night begins on Wednesday December 28th, and the wines and their tapas will be available through January 4th.
First, SOHO will pour a 2011 El Enemigo Cabernet Franc, from Mendoza, Argentina, and offers the following tasting notes,
“The nose has intense aromas and concentrated notes of cassis, ripe currants, and sweet spices including black pepper and cloves. Fresh impact and excellent structure on the palate, reminiscent of ripe red fruits with hints of eucalyptus and tagged black pepper. This wine has an excellent balance and elegance with a well-structured, persistent finish.”
Next, SOHO will pour a 2013 Browne Tribute Red Blend from Columbia Valley. The wine is described as,
“This silky red blend offers big fruit flavors and well-integrated, velvety tannins. Aromatics of pipe tobacco, leather and dark fruit layer with ripe boysenberry flavors and a hint of black pepper. The finish lingers with blackberry jam and toasty, graphite back notes.”
Finally, SOHO will pour a 2010 Piccini Villa Al Cortile Brunello di Montalcino from Montalcino, Tuscany. The winemaker says,
“Tasting notes: Almost impenetrable dark red color, sustained and round with complex notes of liquorice and ripe black cherry, both powerful and classy. Full, ripe, spicy black-skinned fruit on the palate, smooth tannins expose great elegance. Chest-nutty fruit long aftertaste.”
SOHO’s Executive Chef, Jeff Sigler, has created a suggested tapa plate to pair with each of the wines!
