First, SOHO will pour a 2012 Gilbert Cellars ‘Left Bank’ Cabernet from Columbia Valley, Washington. The winemaker offers the following tasting notes, “The 2012 ‘Left Bank’ shows a deep, dense plum color characteristic of the  blend. Immediately, the nose jumps forth with aromas of ripe black fruit – currant, blackberry, cocoa bean, cigar tobacco, paper smoke, wet rock, freshly-milled cedar and peppermint liqueur. Broodingly complex and dignified. Upon tasting the palate surprises initially with dry-restraint yet fulfills the earth-driven promise of the nose with micro-tannins, a dense mid-palate, medium-long finish and subtly balanced alcohol and acidity.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2013 Hoopes Hoopla ‘The Mutt’  Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. The winemaker says, “Bright raspberry and blackberry fruits with notes of fresh cream. Has a medium body with a soft texture and a bright pleasing finish.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2014 Daou Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles, California. The winemaker describes the wine, “Rich and robust with aromas of blackberry, bing cherry and black currants dominating, accented with sage, dried herbs, espresso bean and dark chocolate. Hints of cigar box and vanilla. Bold and full bodied on the palate, offering flavors of cherry, dried berries and cassis, with a subtle mocha and truffle nuances. Balanced and well-rounded finish of pure blackberry fruit, coffee, and a firm but smooth texture.”

SOHO’s executive chef, Scott Warren, and sous chef, Chris Lyons, have created a tapas plate to pair with each wine.

2012 Gilbert Cellars ‘Left Bank’ Cabernet
49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc, 14% Merlot, 14% Malbec 7% Petit Verdot
Paired with: Grilled venison with roasted asparagus and pickled grapes

2013 Hoopes Hoopla ‘The Mutt’ Napa Valley Cabernet

Paired with: Mushroom and short rib ravioli with walnut brown butter & sage

2014 Daou Cabernet Sauvignon

First, SOHO will pour a 2011 Luca Double Select Syrah from Mendoza, Argentina. The winemaker describes the wine, “The nose is like walking into a gentleman’s poker palor: aromas of cigar, leather, and smoked meat fill the nose with hints of toasty oak, forest floor and baking spice. Well-structured tannins support big fruit flavors of blackberry jam, black spiced cherries, ground black pepper and just a hint of rhubarb.

Next, SOHO will pour a 2012 Famille Perrin ‘Coudoulet de Beaccastel’ Côtes du Rhône from Rhone, France. Wine Spectator says: “A floral, open style, with honeysuckle and orange blossom notes leading the way backed by an enticing core of white peach flavors. A flicker of talc adds length on the pure finish.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2012 Napa Cellars Dyer Vineyard Syrah from Napa Valley. The winemaker notes “The Napa Cellars 2012 Dyer Syrah showcases vibrant aromas of blueberry and boysenberry with graphite and slate notes resting on the nose.
