SOHO Atlanta restaurant will continue to showcase the wines and flavors of South America on flight night, Wednesday, June 25, 2014. The wines and tapas introduced Wednesday will be available through Tuesday, July 1.

Chilean vineyardsVineyards in Chile

First, SOHO will pour a 2011 Vina Maipo “Gran Devocion” Carmenere from Maule Valley, Chile. The winemaker notes, “The unmistakable character of Carmenere, with its intense color and cocoa, sweet spices, and tobacco aromas, is enhanced by Syrah’s juiciness and red fruit aromas, creating a bright and deep wine, with good body, soft tannins and complex finish.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2011 Luca Double Select Syrah from Uco Valley, Argentina. The winemaker says, “Beautiful deep purple color. The nose is like walking into a gentlemen’s poker parlor: aromas of cigar, leather, and smoked meat fill the nose with hints of toasty oak, forest floor and baking spice. Well-structured tannins support big fruit flavors of blackberry jam, black spiced cherries, ground black pepper and just a hint of rhubarb. Nice, lingering finish.”

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2011 Aruma Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina. Of the wine, the winemakers says, “Medium ruby-red. Lively aromas of crushed blackberry, musky espresso and wild herbs are primary, pure and expansive. Juicy, spicy and dry, showing a restrained sweetness and a fine-grained texture to the black fruit flavors. Finishes with suave, supple tannins and sneaky length and lift.“

SOHO’s executive chef, Scott Warren, has created three tapas plates to pair with each South American wine.
