SOHO Atlanta restaurant will continue to showcase the wines and flavors of Australia and New Zealand on flight night, Wednesday, November 13. The wines and tapas introduced on flight night will be available through Tuesday, November 19.
First, SOHO will pour a 2012 ‘Chasing Venus’ Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand. The winemaker says of the wine: “New Zealand’s cooler than normal growing season shows up as crisp, pungent gooseberry flavors in our 2012 Chasing Venus Sauvignon Blanc. Aggressive aromas of fresh mown grass and bright lemon jump from the glass. Flavors of zesty lime mingle with stony minerals and herbs with just a hint of the classic bright grapefruit flavors in the background. The finish is tangy and juicy with bright acidity.”
Next, SOHO will pour a 2010 Craggy Range ‘Te Kahu’ from Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. The winemaker describes the wine: “Bold aromatics of black fruits. Boysenberry, blackberry and plum dominate the subtle varietal aromatics of fresh mint and thyme with some cinnamon showing from its time in oak. The palate is fresh and lively. Lovely fine tannins surround a ripe core of sweet fruit with good acidity providing balance and length.”
Finally, SOHO will pour a 2010 Penley Estate ‘Phoenix’ Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra, Australia. The winemaker notes: “The fragrant aroma consists of violets, black currant leaf, ripe wild berry and integrated spice of the Cabernet grape…Complex and well integrated oak characters are evident on the bouquet. Mulberry and blackberry are dominant fruit flavors enhanced by a young tight palate with silky grape tannin and elegant complex cedar oak…A very generous mid palate with a hint of liquorice and chocolate that lingers on the finish.”
SOHO’s executive chef, Joe Ahn, has created three tapas plates to pair with each New Zealand and Australian wine.
