Each Wednesday night, SOHO Atlanta Restaurant hosts “flight night,” showcasing three new wines and tapas plates. This week, SOHO is highlighting the wines and flavors of Italy.

First, SOHO will pour a 2009 Vietti Barbera D’Asti Tre Vigne from Piedmont, Italy. Of the wine, the winemaker says: “Ruby purple color with ripe red cherry aromas with hints of mineral and vanilla. A dry, medium bodied red wine with refreshing acidity (making it perfect to pair with food) and soft tannins, the Barbera d’Asti Tre Vigne is well balanced with good integration of oak, good complexity and a finish of more red cherries.”

Next, SOHO will pour a 2010 Castellare di Castellina Chiani Classico. The winemaker said of the Chianti: “A bright ruby in color, this Chianti Classico shows well-integrated aromas of ripe black cherries, forest floor, tobacco, and a hint of cedar spice. On the palate, it shows both firm structure and refreshing acidity, making it very versatile.

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2005 Recchia “Ca’Bertoldi” Amarone from Veneto, Italy. Of the wine, the winemaker says: “A tarry red with firm tannins backing tobacco-tinged flavors of dried black currant, cocoa powder, cherry preserves, ground spice and nut. This shows good intensity and focus, ending with a well-knit, lingering finish.”

Each Italian wine will be paired with a tapas plated created by SOHO’s executive chef, Joe Ahn.

2010 Castellare di Castellina Chiani Classico
95% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo
Paired with: Porcini Mushroom Ravioli

2005 Recchia “Ca’Bertoldi” Amarone
70% Corvina, 25% Rodinella, 5% Molinara
Paired with: Beef Tenderloin, Cippolini Onions

Sample each wine in a flight (three three-ounce glasses) for $13.50. Or, pair the flight with a tapas plate for $18. Try a full glass of wine and tapas plate for $12. Of course, the wines and tapas are available individually as well ($9/glass and $6/tapas). See you soon!
