Experience Italy at SOHO

This June, SOHO Atlanta restaurant will showcase the wines and flavors of Italy. The Italian tour kicks off on flight night Wednesday, June 1.

First, SOHO will pour a 2008 Disisa Grillo from Sicily. On the nose, the wine offers aromas of pear, Golden Delicious apple, and honeysuckle. On the palate, the Grillo is light, crisp, and balanced with fruit. It is a great warm weather wine.

Next, SOHO will pour a 2008 Cardeto Rupestro from Umbria. The wine is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Sangiovese. On the palate the wine offers flavors of plums, cherries, and peppery spices.

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2007 Antinori "Villa Antinori Red" from Tuscany. The Villa Antinori Red is a blend of 55% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet, 15% Merlot and 5% Syrah. The wine offers aromas of ripe fruit, plum jam, mint, chocolate and tobacco. On the palate, the wine has good body with velvety tannins and hints of ripe fruit.

SOHO's executive chef Joe Ahn has created tapas plates to pair with each Italian wine. The following will be available on SOHO's menu until Wednesday, June 8.

2008 Disisa Grillo, Sicily, Italy
100% Grillo
Paired with: Chilled citrus marinated baby shrimp salad with grilled bread

2008 Cardeto Rupestro, Umbria, Italy
80% Merlot, 20% Sangiovese
Paired with: Portabella and shitake mushroom pizza

2007 Antinori "Villa Antinori Red" Tuscany, Italy
55% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet, 15% Merlot and 5% Syrah
Paired with: Lamb and beef meatballs served with soft polenta and marinara

SOHO Atlanta restaurant will finish a tour of Napa Valley wines and flavors on flight night, Wednesday, May, 25.

First SOHO will pour a 2009 Antica Estate Chardonnay. On the nose, the Chardonnay offers flavors of crushed stone fruit. On the palate, the wine offers flavors of pear, apple, white peach and minerals. The Chardonnay is produced from grapes harvested from six distinct vineyards on the Antica Estate.

Next, SOHO will pour a 2008 Steltzner Claret. The Claret is a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 12% Cabernet Franc. The wine offers notes of Bing cherries, cinnamon, clove, vanilla, and sweet oak on the nose. On the palate, the Steltzner Claret offers flavors of sweet dried cherries, baking spices, vanilla and cedar.

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2007 Robert Mondavi Napa Cabernet Sauvingnon.The wine is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% of Petit Verdot and Malbec. Grapes are sourced from both the To Kalon vineyard, best know for producing Opus One, and the Stags Leap District. The Cabernet offers notes of dark fruit, warm vanilla and star anise on the nose. On the palate, the wine offerrs flavors of huckleberry, blackberry and currant and has a long finish.

SOHO's executive chef, Joe Ahn, has created three tapas plates to pair with each Napa Valley wine. The following will be offered on SOHO's menu until Wednesday, June 1.

2009 Antica Estate Chardonnay, Napa Valley, California
100% Chardonnay
Paired with: Seared scallops with sweet pea vanilla sauce

2008 Stelzner Claret, Napa Valley, California
68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc
Paired with: Potato gnocchi with pancetta and gorganzola cream

2007 Robert Mondavi Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California
86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% of Petit Verdot and Malbec
Paired with: Seasame braised beef short ribs with Korean sweet potatoes

Gluten-Free Dining at SOHO

May is National Celiac Disease Awareness Month and, in conjunction with that campaign, SOHO would like to remind diners that the restaurant offers gluten-free dishes for both lunch and dinner.

The entire gluten-free lunch and dinner menus can be found here. Signature SOHO appetizers that can be found on the gluten-free menu include: chicken tortilla soup, with pulled chicken, tortilla chips, avocado, tomatoes, corn, cheese, chili and lime; farm-raised Prince Edward Island mussels served with lemongrass and serrano white wine broth; and hanger steak tacos served with soft corn tortillas, tomatillo salsa, guacamole and sour cream.

SOHO's also offers gluten-free diners numerous entree options on the lunch and dinner menu. The lunch menu includes: a noodle bowl with rice noodles, shrimp, chicken, bok choy, and Chinese five spice chicken broth; blackened mahi tacos with soft corn tortillas, spicy red cabbage and a citrus sauce; and a maple-glazed salmon salad with a key lime vinaigrette.

The dinner menu includes: a grilled pork chop served with herb roasted potatoes, pear sauce and seasonal vegetables; a Scottish salmon glazed with Mayhew BBQ sauce served with roasted fingerlings and sauteed swiss chard; and Painted Hills beef short ribs served with celery root potato puree, sauteed spinach and tomato, and a natural reduction.

For gluten-free diners looking to quench their thirst, SOHO does offer a gluten-free Tito's Vodka and Green's Amber Ale.

SOHO Atlanta restaurant will continue to showcase the wines and flavors of Napa Valley on flight night Wednesday, May 18.

First, SOHO will pour a 2009 Decoy Sauvignon Blanc by Duckhorn. The wine is a blend of 79% Sauvignon Blanc and 21% Semillon. Wine & Spirits magazine said of the Decoy Sauvignon Blanc, "As fat and succulent as this wine may be, with ripe pineapple, fresh apple and leesy tannin, the structure keeps it discreet and lasting. It finishes with a gentle touch."

Next, SOHO will pour a 2009 Ramspeck Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is composed of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 9% Petit Verdot and 6% Malbec. Blended from small mountainside vineyards that produce concentrated fruit, the Ramspeck Cabernet is a very high-quality wine according to SOHO's wine expert, Lars Snavely.

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2007 Real McCoy Cabernet Sauvignon. The winemaker for the Real McCoy is Robert Mueller whose past experience includes Robert Mondavi and Opus One. The 2007 Cabernet features aromas reminiscent of wild strawberries, blackberries, cherries, and black pepper. On the palate, the wine offers smooth tannins along with hints of vanilla and cinnamon.

SOHO's executive chef, Joe Ahn, has created three tapas plates to pair with each Napa Valley wine. The following will be featured on SOHO's menu until Wednesday, May 25.

2009 Decoy Sauvignon Blanc by Duckhorn, Napa Valley, California
79% Sauvignon Blanc, 21% Semillon
Paired with: Tuna carpaccio with capers, lemon and extra virgin olive oil

2009 Ramspeck Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California
78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 9% Petit Verdot, 6% Malbec
Paired with: Grilled pizza with arugula and shaved Prosciutto

2007 Real McCoy Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California
100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Paired with: Grilled flat iron steak with gaufrette potatoes and Vidalia jus

SOHO Atlanta restaurant will continue to spotlight the wines and flavors of Napa Valley, California, on flight night Wednesday, May 11.

First, SOHO will pour a 2009 Honig Sauvignon Blanc. The Sauvignon Blanc offers notes of orange blossom notes on the nose. On the palate, the wine features flavors of lemon, melon, peach and nectarine.

Next, SOHO will pour a 2009 Novy Syrah. On the palate the Syrah is peppery, with fresh plum and wild berry flavors. The wine is complex and spicy.

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2007 Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon. The Caberent is made Bordeaux-style with forward, ripe fruit flavors of black currant and berry. On the palate the wine is also spicy with gentle oak nuances.

2007 Josh Cabernet, North Coast, Napa Valley, California
100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Paired with: Lamb Moussaka

Journey to Napa Valley with SOHO

Throughout the month of May, SOHO Atlanta will spotlight the wines and flavors of Napa Valley, California. The tour begins on flight night, Wednesday, May 4.

First, SOHO will pour a 2009 Valley Floor Chardonnay. According to SOHO's resident wine expert, Lars Snavely, on the palate this wine features fresh fruit flavors such as pear, melon, and apple, as well as a touch of spice. The Chardonnay has a good acid balance and long finish.

Next, SOHO will pour a 2007 Conn Creek Herrick Red. The wine is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Syrah, 5% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot, 1% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot. On the the nose, the Herrick Red offers notes of spicy oak and black currant. This wine is medium-bodied, with earthy and black fruit flavors on the palate.

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2007 Freemark Abbey Merlot. The wine is a blend of 79% Merlot, 11.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8.9% Verdot and Petite Syrah, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. On the nose, this wine offers notes of dark cherry, plum and boysenberry, with aromatic cedar, juniper berry, vanilla and milk chocolate. On the palate, there is bright cherry fruit and Santa Rosa plum.

SOHO's executive chef, Joe Ahn, has prepared three tapas dishes to pair with each Napa Valley wine. The following will be featured on SOHO's menu until Wednesday, May 11.

100% Chardonnay
Paired with: Shrimp scampi with cheyote squash

2007 Conn Creek Herrick Red, Napa Valley, California
82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Syrah, 5% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot, 1% Malbec, 1% Petite Verdot
Paired with: Lamb sliders with feta and tzatziki sauce

2007 Freemark Abbey Merlot, Napa Valley, California
79% Merlot, 11.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8.9% Petite Verdot, small amounts of Petite Syrah, Malbec and Cabernet Franc
Paired with: Beef and mushroom empanadas
