Atlanta, flight night, italy, SOHO, tapas, wine

On flight night, Wednesday, December 22, and Wednesday, December 29, SOHO will continue to spotlight the wines and flavors of Italy.

David (Medium)

First, SOHO will pour a 2008 Sartori "Ferdi" Bianco Veronese from Verona, Italy. This wine stands out for a number of reasons – including how it is produced. The grapes are hand picked and the winery selects only the best bunches for production. After picking, the grapes are left for forty days to dry before they are pressed. This technique concentrates the flavor of the wine. Fermentation takes place in both oak and stainless barrels – oak for rich flavors and stainless for fresh flavors. The wine then matures on the lees for six to seven months. It is then bottle aged for six to seven months. According to SOHO's resident wine expert, Lars Snavely, the result is delicious and not to be missed.

Next, SOHO will pour a 2008 Col D'Orcia "Spezieri" Toscana from Tuscany, Italy. Col D'Orcia is the producer of one of Italy's most revered red wines: Brunello di Montalcino. The winery has a rich history of wine making that dates back to the 1700s. The "Spezieri" is a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, Ciliegiolo and Cabernet Sauvignon. On the palate the wine is soft and elegant.

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2007 Luce Della Vite Lucente from Tuscany, Italy. Lars says this wine is not to be missed. The 2007 Lucente is a blend of Merlot, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Lucente offers aromas of plum and blackberry preserves, along with more pungent roasted espresso bean and baker's chocolate. On the palate the wine is warm, round and balanced, with smooth tannins.

Inspired by the cuisine of Italy, SOHO's Chef Joe has created three new tapas plates to be paired with each Italian wine. The following will be featured on SOHO's menu until Wednesday, January 5.

2008 Sartori "Ferdi" Bianco Veronese, Verona, Italy
100% Garganega
Saffron arancini stuffed with sage and pancetta with a lemon aioli

2008 Col D'Orcia "Spezieri" Toscana, Tuscany, Italy
40% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot, 20% Ciliegiolo, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon
Potato gnocchi a la bolgnese with truffle oil

2007 Luce Della Vite Lucente, Tuscany, Italy
50% Merlot, 35% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon
Braised lamb shank and toasted barley risotto

Sample each wine in a flight (three three-ounce glasses) for $13.50. Or, pair the flight with a tapas plate for $18. Try a full glass of wine and tapas plate for $12. Of course, the wines and tapas are available individually as well ($9/glass and $6/tapas). See you soon!

Atlanta, menu, pasta, pork chop, salad, SOHO

As cold (very cold!) weather sweeps across Atlanta it's a good time to enjoy the warmth of family, friends, and great food and wine. The chefs at SOHO are dedicated to creating savory, seasonal dishes to satisfy every palate.

Snowflake8

The latest addition to the SOHO menu is a Braised Cider Beet Salad. The salad features arugula, goat's cheese, toasted pecans, and braised cider beets tossed in a citrus vinaigrette. As a starter – or meal unto itself – the salad is a seasonal delight.

In addition to the new items I've highlighted recently, SOHO's menu is full of longtime favorites. I wanted to take a moment and spotlight two of these dishes. First, the Beef Bolognese. This traditional dish features a savory bolognese sauce over farfalle pasta. Topped with shaved parmesan, it is the perfect dish to warm up a cold winter night. Next, there is the Grilled Pork Chop. The dish features a tender, juicy bone-in pork chop served over herb roasted potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Served with a side of pear sauce, the pork chop is a meal that is sure to please.

Please stop in soon and find your own SOHO favorite.

First, SOHO will pour a 2009 Zenato Lugana from Veneto, Italy. The 2009 Zenato Lugana is fermented in stainless barrels and then aged in stainless barrels - all to retain the fresh fruit and crisp acidity in the wine. The wine features aromas of peaches, citrus and herbs. SOHO's resident wine expert, Lars Snavely, notes that on the palate there is ample balance to the crisp acidity.

Next, SOHO will pour a 2007 Cairel Dolcetto D'Alba from Piedmont, Italy. Only 2000 cases of the Dolcetto D'Alba were produced. The Dolcetto D'Alba features aromas of fresh flowers and mature fruit. On the palate the wine is rich, with mellow fruit flavors and a dry undertone.

Finally, SOHO will pour a 2007 Le Bertille Rosso di Montepulciano from Tuscany, Italy. Like, the Dolcetto D'Alba, the Le Bertille Rosso di Montepulciano is not produced on a large scale. Only 1,200 cases of the wine were made. On the palate the wine is complex, with flavors of dark fruit.

Inspired by the cuisine of Italy, SOHO's Chef Joe has created three new tapas plates to be paired with each Italian wine. The following will be featured on SOHO's menu until Wednesday, December 22.

2009 Zenato Lugana, Veneto, Italy
100% Trebbiano di Lugana
Herb encrusted mahi mahi with white beans and roasted lemon olive oil

2007 Cairel Dolcetto D'Alba, Piedmont, Italy

2007 Le Bertille Rosso di Montepulciano, Tuscany, Italy
