SOHO’s tour of South American wines and flavors continues this week on flight night, Wednesday, September 8.
Cono Sur Vineyards, Chile
First, SOHO will pour a 2008 Cono Sur ‘Vision’ Sauvignon Blanc from Casablanca Valley, Chile. Wine Spectator says this Sauvignon Blanc is “very fresh and floral in style, with white peach, lemon verbena and honeysuckle notes backed by a super-lively finish. Very tasty.”
Next, SOHO will pour a 2008 Nieto Senetiner ‘Don Nicanor’ Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina. Produced from vines planted in 1973, this Malbec offers aromas of cherries, plums, cloves and vanilla, as well as a hint of smoke. On the palate, the wine is balanced, offering fruit and spice flavors with a long and elegant finish.
Finally, SOHO will pour a 2006 Haras De Pirque Carmenere/Cabernet from Maipo Valley, Chile. This wine earned 90 points from Wine Spectator and is spicy on the nose. On the palate, the wine is well-balanced, offering black fruits blended with cassis and cigar notes.
SOHO’s executive chef, Joe Ahn, has prepared three tapas plates to complement each South American wine. The following will be available until Wednesday, September 15.
