Olé! SOHO is traveling to Spain in the month of July. The tour of Spanish wines and flavors begins on flight night, Wednesday, July 7.
First, SOHO will pour a 2009 Muga Blanco from Rioja Alta. One of the top wineries in Spain, Muga is among a handful of wineries that makes their own fermenting and aging barrels in-house. The 2009 Muga Blanco is a fresh, fruity wine.
Next, SOHO will pour a 2006 Palacios Remondo La Montesa from Rioja. This wine is a blend of the red grape varieties that grow organically on the Palacios Remondo estate. The wine offers tastes of mixed berries, white pepper, blood oranges and dark chocolate.
Finally, SOHO will pour a 2002 Marques de la Concordia Reserva from Rioja. To attain the designation of Reserva, a Rioja wine must come from the best barrels and be aged in the winery for three years. The 2002 Marques de la Concordia Reserva is a classic Rioja offering a complex, spiced taste.
Chef Joe has created three Spanish-inspired tapas plates to pair with each wine. The following will be available until July 14:
2009 Muga Blanco, Rioja Alta, Spain
90% Viura, 10% Malvasia
Saffron seafood stew with octopus, mussels, and baby shrimp
2006 Palacios Remondo La Montesa, Rioja, Spain

Quince-glazed grilled boneless quail with paprika roasted potatoes

Sample each wine in a flight (three three-ounce glasses and a cheese plate) for $18. Or, pair a wine and tapas for $12. Of course, the wines and tapas are available individually as well ($9/glass and $6/tapas). See you soon!
